    Planning a Lake Powell trip.

So I am planning a lake powell trip for next year or possibley 2010. It will be me, my wife and 2 kids and my sister, her husband and daughter. I want to stay at the resort/hotel for like 2 days and 3 days or so on a houseboat. I know you can get different rates on the houseboats depending on when you go so my question is, when is the best time to go? As far as weather, water temps and such. And is the time of week a factor as far as how many boats are on the water? I don't want to go in the heat of summer. Probably at the end of August. Any suggestions?
How can I be racist when all of my assault rifles are black?

The best time of year is September. The lake is not as crowded as all the kiddies are back in school. The Air is still mid 90s to 100 and water is still 80. There also is a break on rates at some point in September. You will love the trip, plan on after the first one making it an anual deal. Yes, you will enjoy it that much.
My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.

We stayed at the Lake Powell Resort in Page for a couple days. We asked for a water front room and enjoyed it very much. We also took a 1/2 day boat tour up the lake to Rainbow Bridge. Here is the website to Lake Powell. Enjoy, We were out there for 10 days and went to Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Hoover Dam.

Ditto on September, but if you need to go when the kids are out, then I would say June.

Agreed, September is awesome. The houseboat rental rates are discounted to some degree on 8/24 and then a further discount comes into effect on October 14.

Just because I like you, I will make you an offer you can't refuse. When you get that houseboat, I will drive out to lake powell (I'm only 2 1/2 hours away) and be your boat captain/tour guide. I will take your group to all the cool places and show you the "ins and outs" of the Lake. All you have to do is sit back and relax (and let me play a little).

Big discounts starting 10/14. My trip begins on 10/16! Early Semptember can still catch late monsoons and labor day is crowded. After 9/15 should be fine.

              October Temps
              Air High - 84
              Air Low - 55
              Water - 68 - 70

I might have to take you up on that. lol We might need a DD. And that's designated driver not DD for drunk driver. lol

Thanks for all the input, all 3 kids will be in school so I would have to go before school started. They get out in May, what's the earliest I could go and still have nice water temps and weather?

Like moki said, June is pretty good (actually any month is great at Powell). The water is still a little chilly, but not that bad. Later in the month would be better.

This website gives you all the water data that you need:

                  http://lakepowell.water-data.com/

You can actually retrieve data for any date since the lake was formed.

                  Here is another great site:

                  http://www.wayneswords.com/index.html

Go to the bulletin boards on this site, they are specifically about Powell and the people there have alot of useful information.

Lake powell is beautiful.... also skied on the escalate and san juan rivers. both times we went out of Bullfrog marina and headed down toward rainbow bridge. Both times were in the july time frame and it was great. This lake is a must to see. Its magnificant lake. Get ready to pay big time for fuel at Dangling rope marina.

We went to powell in July and Sepetember this year. We just got back last week. There is no comparision, September was by far the best. Lake was glass all day and night, a lot less crowded, weather was 85 to 90 and water temp 78 to 80 degrees and 60 to 65 at night. We were jet sking at midnight to a full moon. It was awesome!! July was windy, very stormy, hotter than a pistol and very, very crowded. But anytime you can go to powell just go and you will fall in love with the lake!!!
