How many times have you been towed & why?

My tige had to be towed for the first time this summer.
I have 298 hours on my 2004 tige and so far, I had to have it towed once. I figured one time in 4 summers is not too bad. Here is what happened.

We where at lake Mojave, when my wife took her sister and nephews at for some tubing. About 1.5 hours later I se her coming back to the cove behind and I/O. At first I thought she was fallowing them a little closes, when I noticed that they where towing her. The got her about 30 feet from shore, when I asked what happened. One of my nephew help up the towrope in one hand. That all it took for me relies that she ran over the rope. My son swam out and was able to get the rope of the prop in about 2 min. It turns out that while they where changing rides, her youngest nephew sat the rope on the swim deck. A few good swells and the rode fell between the swim deck and boat. When she put the boat in gear, she noticed the tube being pulled towards the boat, so she turned it off. They tried to pull it off the prop, but were unable to stay under the boat in the rough waters of the open lake.
    I learned two things.
    1) that my has the mine not to make things worst, and 2) we need to always have two people on the boat that know there way around boating.

So what has happen to you people? (I would say guys, but I want to PC )
Tige, it's a way of life!

Same as J, we have towed quite a few people at Mead.

Once, it was a dead battery. I now have two. I've towed more people than I can remember. I'll keep doing that. One time I ran into a Wakeskate Pro. It was a big thrill for my kids at their next competition because they got to hang with him. We still call him occasionally when we're on Lake Austin.

We need to pass the proverbial "wood" around

I've towed 3 people over the years personally. 2 for electrical problems, one of which was a guy fishing and got caught with a no start at dusk. We found him paddling out of a cove after dark trying to get back to the ramp. He would have made it by sunup, it was about 4 miles

The best was just a couple of months ago - one of our sales guys took out a brand new Moomba on our day off, our dealer picked up SC from another dealer that went uder and we bought some on their remaining stock. We met up with him and his wife at the sand bar later. When he got ready to leave, he pulled anchor and drove off. About a 100 yards away he slowed, pupped the hood, closed it, and drove off again. Did this about 3 more times so I told the wife to check my phone, sure enough there was a missed call from him so pulled anchor and went after them. It would not do more then Idle so we towed it back to the marina. It turned out to be water in the tank and the filter filled up on the ride out there.

I don't know why people seem to be so happy about misfortunes of others who own different brands of boats than we do. Stuff happens. It doesn't mean that that particular brand of boat sucks.

I guess I'm kind of old school, but I think we're all obligated to each other out there, so no matter what you drive, if you need help, someone should stop and help.

Ok, I'll get off my soap box now.

I am not sure that anyone said anything about another brand of boat I didn't and chp talked about a gas tank having water in it (which happens to all boats)

Did you have a bad FF week?

I agree but when they ask for a tow when their boat is 40 feet from the launch ramp and you have already lined up to put your boat onto your trailer and are going forward, I refuse to help anyone.

                CP3, remember that?

My post was more about a fellow salesman, who's a die-hard Nautique fan, getting towed in by a Tige. I dont believe my post said anything derogatory toward another brand at all I would never pass by a boat on the water that looked like they were having problems!!!

It was more of a general statement. Certainly not directed at you. Sorry if it came across that way.

I have been towed in twice in 5 years. Both times happened in my old 23V. One was for a fried impeller the other for a dead starter.

I have towed several boats in, a lot of them Malibus.

I just towed someone in yesterday, I do that all the time. I have only been towed in once on my tige, ran out of gas when I just bought it, and couldn't figure out if there was something wrong with the gauge and how to fill it up.

On my last 2 boats, I think only once, out of gas. I blew an impeller once on my last boat, but when I saw it start to go bad, I got to ramp in time.

I have been towed a couple times and towed lots of people.
See if I can recall the tows:
1st boat I owned (old I/O) outdrive, oil seal failed by the drive shaft (gimbel side)and pumped gear oil out into bellows and blew up upper gear set.

New boat (newer I/O) raw water inlet hose failed so all the water went into the bilge and none to the motor. Overheated badly in about 15 seconds and melted exhaust hoses, some of which are under water line. (almost sank, very exciting)

Got pulled once off sand bar in the winter time, was not paying attention at night and got outa the channel. Downside had my entire family with me (not really boaters) and the water was in the high 60s (very cold for us Floridian wimps) TowBoat US guy said over the radio: "Captain, this is as close as I can get to you and somebody has to wade to get the line...and that somebody is not me." Was very funny looking back.

I think the towing insurance is best $$ I spend every year, worth it for piece of mind. Heck costs the same as one tank of gas.
