    Help! Redoing vinyl in 22V

Hi, I have a 2004 22V. It is a terrific boat! My only real complaint is that the vinyl on the boat has worn very poorly. The vinyl in the cockpit and bow of the boat (mainly the cushions but also seatbacks) has become very discolored. Both the grey and white vinyl now has a brownish hue. I can get it out using Exquisite vinyl cleaner (the best...I have tried literally everything) but comes back very quickly. This has now been compounded by the stitching on the cockpit and bow seat cushions breaking apart.

I am going to have to have at least the seat cushions redone and may end up having everything redone. Have a few questions which I hope you can help me with:

    > Does anybody know what makes of vinyl I should be looking for the shop to redo it with? Are there any types I should stay away from?

    > Can a good boat canvas/vinyl shop color and grain match the new vinyl with the existing seatbacks if I just had the seats redone? Do I have to have everything redone for the boat to look right?

    > Does anybody know what these types of jobs should cost? Either the whole boat or just the seats?

    > I am up on the eastern shore in Maryland...near Chestertown. Can anyone recommend any good shops to do this work in Maryland, Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania or southern New Jersey?

Would welcome any thoughts and suggestions you may have!

    Thank you!!!!

Hi, I have a 2004 22V also. I just got all of the rear cushions recovered this spring ($650 I am pretty sure). My seat backs are all in good shape so I didn't have them done last spring. I looked through 2 huge books of marine vinyl samples and there was not a direct match, so I have a 3 tone seat color situation going on at the moment - most people never even notice. My vinyl guy told me that boat companies usually order a custom color for a particular model year.

He also told me that the fuzzy backing on the vinyl Tige used indicated it was very low cost. I was never happy with the vinyl in the boat because the seams ripped out every year, just from people sitting on them (no walking). There are some other threads here talking about this issue but basically it comes down to the quality of vinyl, the stitching, and the way it's used. The new vinyl is noticably thicker, but it's only been most of one season so the jury is still out.

I love my boat and would definitely buy another Tige. It only stands to reason that cost has to be saved somewhere, and in our boats I am pretty sure the vinyl was a cost savings target. My old VIP runabout was about 15 years old when I sold it and didn't have a single rip or tear in the original vinyl.

Thanks Hoppas! Yes, I had called Tige and Harvey basically acknowledged that vinyl was poor (and he explained how that negatively impacted the stitches holding as well). I had several Four Winns before my Tige and their seats looked brand new after 4 or 5 years of use. Glad to hear you can get away with just the seats being redone with nobody noticing!

The color is a little different, and we'll eventually have it all matching again. My wife picked the new color, and since I picked all the stereo stuff and pretty much everything else, how could I complain?

        Good luck!

I know a great place in SE PA near Exton (Downingtown area). I can get the numvber for you if interested. You also might want to call Chessie Marine and see who they recommend. I saw a vinyl job done by their guy and it was awesome work! I think their number is 410.620.boat
