Say a prayer for the people on the Texas coast

Yeah, what a contrast to Katrina on how people pulled together. I know that Katrina was more devastating in regards to life, but I am glad that you are working together and helping each other out.

Well, overall, I think Texas is doing a much better job coordinating their efforts. By contrast, Louisiana did a terrible job. I know the feds took most of the heat, but both the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana did not have their act together and made things much worse. I'm not sure anyone could have predicted the magnitude of the damage from either of these storms, so you don't know until you've been through it.

All things considered, they fared pretty well especially considering the fact the the population affected is 10x-20x of Katrina. Keep in mind, that the TX/LA border had already taken a hit from Gustav a week earlier and they got really hammered by Ike. Things are pretty bad for those folks, but of course that never got reported on the media. Same with Katrina, hardly any reports of what happened in Mississippi, even though the storm damage was much worse there.

Wow, good find TeamAllen. It is amazing how much damage there was for Catagory 2 huricane.

There are still 500,000+ residence in the Houston area without electricity still. My mother is one of those people also.

It is simply amazing the amount of destruction. Our power came on after 5 days and I must say it sucked to be out long. I can't imagine some of the people are now on day 13.

Thank you for the offer. She is okay for now unless you have a connection with the electrical company?

She is managing okay and has a generator running. She has gotten so use to electricity that I think this whole event is a little overwhelming for now. I do keep in contact with her on a daily basis and she is making the most out of this whole ordeal.

I have / had a good friend that is a senior linesman with Entergy in Lousiana. I called him to see if he could find something out for me about for my area. He laughed for a bit and said he had his own problems and hung up. So no, I can't help there!

Wow, good find TeamAllen. It is amazing how much damage there was for Catagory 2 huricane.

This was no ordinary storm. It was borderline cat 3 and is probably the largest hurricane ever recorded with hurricane force winds 150 miles from the center. the storm was bigger than the Gulf of Mexico. It cause flooding in Florida.

All in all, things are probably recovering better than could be expected in the Houston area. Thanks to all that are helping out.

That is great! They were saying today that 7% of Centerpoint did not have power. That is still 250K households.

There are still a fair number of people with out power down here. Traffic is really bad as well since some of the lights still are not working either.

We were lucky and only with out power for five days. Kids are finally back in school (Wife is really happy about that!!!).

If there is anything I can do to help out anyone's relatives down here please let me know. I live in Noth West Houston.
