    Lemons into Lemonade

I haven't posted as much lately due to finishing a HUGE software system/project/site I have been working on for several months. I am just now getting some breathing room. In case you are interested, you can see the public part of the project here:

    http://www.venue.com/

It has been tough finding time to get to the lake, and the low levels have made it worse. There is basically only one ramp in use at oroville, and its a steep muddy mess. Good thing I have a couple of serious 4wd vehicles to take care of the job. Normally, the Garcia's (thats us) go on the lake 2x during the week, from like 1-2pm til dark or maybe a bit after. We stay away on the weekends except to occasionally take out the pontoon and waverunners.

Well, the ramp is way too much work and too far for weekday afternoon trips. But due to this, NO ONE is on the lake, even on the weekends. So for the last 3 weeks, we have been going all day, from 8am til dark on the lake for at least 1 weekend day. And for the last 2 weeks, my parents and their family have been going with us, which has REALLY been a blast.

My dad has a big 26' Chapparal cuddy cabin and it is WAY too heavy to try to launch and retrieve. So we have been emptying our warehouse on the weekend, and we bring the tige, the waverunners, and my parents use the pontoon. Man, the convoy on the freeway, it gives me a chubby.

So here is what our little private party has been looking like.

Here is RJ cooking on the barbeque, we have had homemade carne asada, and burgers, and sausages cooked on the grill. The pontoon with the grill is a GREAT companion.

This in the afternoon, but you can see how little activity. Those boats across the way are actually in the main Bidwell Marina. This is the MAIN body of water on oroville. See any boats? This is on LABOR DAY Sunday.

I usually start the morning, by asking all the kids who wants to tube. Normally I don't even take a tube. But we had like 13 kids under 10. As you know I have adopted 3 kids, rescued from the county, and they are 10,7, and 3. My parents have adopted several and are in the process of adopting several more, totalling about 13. Every single one of these kids has a story that would tear your heart out. Some of them could do nothing more than site and rock in a corner when they first showed up, no joke. Some of them are still diagnosed as mentally handicapped. Not for down syndrome, just as a result of neglect, and some of them drugs. I love seeing them smile and enjoy the water and the tube. I am uncle Bob to them.

This is Jesse and T-Bone in the back, with several of the other kids.

You can see Maddie in the back here.

My parents have finished adoption on this one. He is special to me because to help my parents with him, we had to foster him for a few months before my parents could adopt him. He is also one of the only fellow beaners.

Another great one. She kept saying, "ok, uncle bob, you are not going to go fast, right?"

    More to come...

    My Parents

With all of those kids, my parents almost never get to ski or anything anymore so I was looking forward to taking them out. I took them skiing which was fun, but they REALLY loved learning how to surf, and I think will keep doing it for a long time. They tried the blue lake, but its a bit squirly. Again, my new long board comes to the rescue. Everyone has been having so much fun on that thing.

Here is my dad, first time on long board, after riding 2 times on blue lake. Couldn't quite let go of rope on blue lake.

He was able to let go and hold it on the long board. With its 3 fin setup, it is VERY stable and fun.

And here is my mom. Same thing, this is first time on long board after 2 tries on blue lake.

    Ooops

My mom and Dad are very competitive. She was working hard to let go of roap, like dad.

    She did it!

I love these pictures, I kid you not, she was giggling the whole time. It really made me feel good seeing them have so much fun. This is what wakesurfing is all about.

And down she goes, she falls just like my daughter ashley. When she feels she is going over, she plugs her nose.

You may notice my parents are VERY young. They are only 56. They had me when they were 16. Crazy. I guess the story starts there, we had a rough start as a family. A lot of domestic violence and alcohol. My dad finally turned around when I was about 12, after going to jail.

This is why I don't drink, I am the first in at least 4 generations that isn't an alcoholic and violent towards their family. You would never know now with my dad. He is a very gentle forgiving person. We have a great relationship now, but it took several years after I left the house to build that after all the caca. But all is good now.

    Still more to come....

Ah...Venue...don't remind me! JK Robert, site looks great.

Looks like everyone was having a blast. Seeing the kids laugh and smile like that makes owning a boat (or in your case boats) such a pleasure. Btw, my wife does the nose plug thing too.

        Jennelle and Lee

I also got a chance to get my sister up, she didn't let go of the rope. When I was 12, and my family turned around my parents adopted Jennelle. She was never supposed to walk or talk and had a lot of rough times. She is 25 now.

And here is my brother Lee. My parents adopted lee when I was about 17, he was 6. He was adopted with his older brother Joe, he was 9. Lee barely made it. You have a lot of demons when you are adopted late like that from neglect. Joe didn't make it. He died (story for another time) when he was 13.

When Joe died, I was 23 or so, and just had Ashley. I told myself I would never adopt. It was a horrible and gut wrenching experience. Lee almost didn't make it either, but he made it. It was Lee's story that gave me hope that we could adopt and make a difference, although I made a rule that I would not adopt any child over 6.

        Lee showing off my board.

          More Surfing

T-Bone doing his thing on the new smed wombat. Looks like I am keeping that board.

          Maddie with her trademark style.

Whiteman's overbite. Any points for that?

          The DUMP!

Cousin Joe was able to let go on the long board.

Whitney enjoying her new calibrated. She calls it her lucky charm.

RJ got to rip it up for my parents a bit.

          Dad was on rope duty.

And the Leprechaun still steals the show.

Jesse wanted to show her grandparents how she surfed, so we thought we would try throwing her out with RJ on the longboard. The chocolate Leprechaun stole the show as only she could.

              She's a bit nervous here.

Now she is ok. She is almost fearless.

I think that's it for today. We are going out Saturday and Sunday this weekend, may be our last weekend out of the summer, the ramp is REALLY getting bad.

My kids constantly make me laugh. They do not lack self confidence or humor. Whitney, RJ, and Jesse are especially characters though. Ever since RJ was little, he had a funny personality. When he was 3, he used to walk around with this green plastic top hat that said, "Kiss me, I'm Irish". He wore it non stop for months. He was funny.

Reminds me of a quick story with him. One time I went to a meeting and I took RJ with me. I often ask clients ahead of time and will bring a kid with me. They quietly sit in the corner during the meeting. This one meeting, had to put some nice clothes and on and it was in downtown L.A. Meeting was over and we headed to elevator. My stomach was a bit off, and I was holding stuff in the whole meeting. So we get to elevator, and doors are closing and I let it loose. RJ says, "Thanks dad". But just then, I hear someone say hold the door, and a hand grabs the door, and like 6 people come in. Oh great. It wasn't a few seconds before I see the looks on a few of the peoples faces, I was pretty embarrassed. Just then, and remember RJ is like 6 yrs old, RJ says "Sorry dad, I wasn't feeling well". So I say, "Its ok son, but next time please wait til you get to the bathroom".

He never did that before, we never talked about anything like that, he just took responsibility for my gas. It was the ultimate BRO moment. Brought a tear to my eye. I took him out for a double-double animal style and a chocolate shake.

                      He's a funny kid.

Wow, that is great awareness on RJ's side. Especially at 6 yrs old... Wow....
