    Buying A New Boat

Hey guys, I've been a membef for awhile mostly reading threads, but I am on a quest to get a new boat next year. My son has competed for 4 to 5 years wakeboarding and we have been a water family for probably 12 years. I currently own an 18 foot boat am I'm already convinced on the reasons why I need a VDrive. Now it boils down to which one. I want a 21 footer and I'm currently looking at:
    - Tige Z1 - Not a big fan of the graphic style and the new tower and servicing maybe an issue. Compared to the 20V, I thought the 20V was better but I want a wider beam
    - CC210 - Have not seen one up close, within the next week I'm going to have a look. My son rode behind one at a competition and thought the wake was narrow but the boat itself was of good quality.
    - Supra 22ssv - Great boat but I'm not a fan of the lunge thing in the front. The 21 launch might make it but again the playpen seating turns me off.
Moomba Mobius LSV - Drove it and seems pretty good bang for he buck, seats seem close to the floor and some quality issues wit finish, ballast fills and drains quick, Indamar Engine so that a tried and true setup. For 53K you cannot go to wrong but in this range there are other competitors. I can have a boat decked out and ready to rock at 53k. Wake was narrow and the length of useable wake was short.
MC X2 - No nothing about it but its on my list. Picle fork I'm not so sure about.
    Needs:
    - Snap out carpet
    - ballast below the floor, I want to be able to have intermidiate to pro level wakes. I do not want to grow out of this boat but into it.
    - Wake that has a long well shaped lip so you have rope length choices from 65 feet for narrow width to 75 for wider wake and more time in the air.
    - I want to be able to surf
    - I do not want to have a boat full of bladder to achieve my needs
    - I really like ballast gauges
    - Great factory stereo, whic includes good tunes at the wakeboard and the ability to adjust volume between the cockpit and those riding
    - Looking for quality but not at a cost through the nose, there has to be a compromise somewhere.
    - Dash has to be clearly visible yet you have good visiblity over the wind shield.
I know there is more but this is a start. I've driven a few and I'm going to look at more within the nest week. I am buying a boat it now becomes which one, cost is a part of this but I will not compromise on a 10 k upgrade and have a regret later. This boat is for the long haul. I thought he 21 foot range was a good compromise although I do like th 22VE, it is just that servicing is an issue. Cheers, looking forward to some input from this site.

If you are looking to grow into a boat the 22ve, RZ2 or X2 will be the best option IMO. I've ridden behind an LSV and the wake was tiny, even with the ballast full. You seem like type that will want a huge wake so a Tige or MC will be the best way to go. One thing about Tige and MC is they both have big wakes but they are different. Tige has a smaller wake, again IMO, but it is steeper and has more pop so it will throw you up higher without having to cut in hard. The MC is bigger but at a lower angle, still giving you quite a bit of pop, just not straight up like the Tige. Its all in the pref of the rider and I like the kick the tige wake has, therefore i own one I highly recommend going with the pickle fork of the RZ2 or X2, it makes the boat SO much bigger and useable. As for stereo I think Tige has MC beat. Hope that helps and good luck in your search for a new boat!
    Tige Throws Mad Wake.

Snap out carpet will narrow it down to Mastercraft.

A few random thoughts that jump out to me quickly:

Snap out carpet is not an option from Tige except up in the bow where it is pretty standard.

You would love the wake on a 22Ve.

Every top level rider has bags all over the place regardless of stock ballast capacity. More is better, kind of like having too much money or being too good looking.

Stereo can be better done aftermarket in most regards, unless you get a Wetsounds setup which can be done at the Tige factory.
        Be excellent to one another.

X2 has been a proven boat for 6, 7 or 8 years. I think you need to look at a boats past to see how much of a future it has. The X2 has been around for a while and a lot of people really like its wake at the pro level.

No VLX in the running? The 09's hull is bad arse!

              - Tige Z1 - Not a big fan of the graphic style and the new tower and servicing maybe an issue. Compared to the 20V, I thought the 20V was better but I want a wider beam
Are you saying that you dont have a Tige dealer close by? Get the boat with out graphics, leave it nude or do your own custom! The 20V with it's 600#'s of stock ballast will not have the wake you sound like your looking for as compared to the Z1. Z1 = One of the best surf wakes out there with out adding a $h!t load of weight. More storage then the CC210. Tige towers come with swivel racks std.

              - CC210 - Have not seen one up close, within the next week I'm going to have a look. My son rode behind one at a competition and thought the wake was narrow but the boat itself was of good quality.
Less beam, not nearly the storage, only 50lbs more factory ballast, same drive train (PCM for Tige in 09), shallow seating compared to Tige. CC's "integrated ballast" is nothing more then then tanks in the floor of the storage with a false, carpet covered floor layed over top, it takes up what little storage the CC's have. Pathetic surf wake with factory ballast and 3 passengers, I could not get a limp rope at all. Z1 is surfable with no ballast and only 1 observer. You really have to load the boat down to surf it. The Hydro-gate has only up, down, or middle, and really doesnt help to clean and shape the wake unlike the Tige TAPS system. CC uses flimsy plastic in some of their boats where the cup holders are and speakers mount, I've seen them crack. Hull and deck seam is sealed with black caulking, Tige is bonded/glassed into one piece. fixed board racks are hard to use, but cant remember if there is a tower option that lets you get the spinners in 08, but I thing the new tower comes with spinners.

I believe MSRP is about $53K on a nicely equipped LSV w/trailer. You can go online and build one and it will give you MSRP. The dealer has room to work if he wants your business. Free-board is REAL shallow, gets uncomfortable after an hour or so, or when the water is choppy. Tower and bimini are very short.....perfect fit for Wee Man and Mini Me. (i'm not a tall guy and I kept clunking my head. Dont believe the driver's seat swivels on the Moombas, may be just the Outbacks that didn't. Decent storage, but uses soft sacs. Wake is ok with factory ballast (good enough for me) but I believe your son will out grow it and you'll be adding sacs/lead, etc. Narrower beam then the Z1, 1" more then the 20V, but the 20V just seems like a bigger boat. Moombas only come with single axle trailer. Although the fit and finish have come a long way in the past few years, I cant put the LSV up against a Tige in overall build. Great price, but you could get a nicely equipped Z1 for the same $$$. The power wake plate is an option, unlike TAPS which is std on all Tiges) Comes with Moomba Cruise, but I would step up to PP Pro. Fixed board racks are hard to use.

Supra 22ssv - Great boat but I'm not a fan of the lunge thing in the front. The 21 launch might make it but again the playpen seating turns me off
The seating in the 21 and 22 ft Supras lock the driver in, I find this very uncomfortable and makes me a little nervous. You have to climb out of the captains seat.

I know this won't help much, but i must say, I own an '03 20i and by no means is it a "wake boat" BUT, with 1k of ballast the wake is exceptionally insane. I have yet to find a trick that i can't do off this wake. The taps is extremely convenient being able to change the wake/shape due to more people or diff. skill levels. This is my first Tige and I am in love with this boat's craftsmanship so much that i plan on purchsing a new one nxt season. Now, with that said, I have ridden behind a mobius for the last 2 years. The wake was awesome with xtra sacs, but the quality was a bit shy. We actually lost a couple seat cushions going down the highway at 60 mph. A few of the gauges quit working after a yr and a half. The floor developed a few warped spots close to the rear seat. They weren't bad but if you are meticulous like me, it'd bug you to death. Also, the swim platform cracked in 2 different places. It was great for us "college students" but we took what we could get. I just felt like adding my 2 cents.

Its not that I don't have Tige servicing its just that the place that sells and where the boat gets serviced are on opposite ends of town. To me I like to be able to go into the place where I bought it and get it serviced not some small shop where the servicing is being sub'd out to. No Offence to the Tige dealer he is a great guy, just wsish they had a bigger setup to not only sell their boats but service them.
The snap out carpets are important to me but I'll have to look at the big picture when buying. This boat will be a long term investment, last thing I want to do after the first year is wish I had done things differently.
You are right the Mobius drivers seat does not swivel and it was uncomfortable after a couple hours driving; big turn off.
I thought CC ballast was built into the floor; if they just place a carpet over top of above floor then that sucks. Might as well just soft bag it and be done with it.
A wider beam I think is very nice for the cockpit which the Z1 has at 100". The 22VE I still think is a great boat but not sure if I want or need that much. My son road behind one alot but even that one was bagged up pretty heavy for them. I will be giving the X2 a good look over tomorrow.

You need to drive them all and see what you like best.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Yep, next time you get a chance to look at one, reach into the storage where the "floor" reaches the gunwale, and pull it up, you will see the white plastic tank.

If towing, storage, and price of a 22Ve is not an issue, take a real hard look it, this will ward off 2ftitis for much longer.

I see what you are saying about the service. For warranty work, your dealer has to stand behind the sub-let shop, so no worries there, but let me ask this.........if you take it to the shop for customer-pay service, who do you pay, the dealer or the shop? if you pay the shop directly, then you are at the mercy of the shop if something is not done correctly as your dealer may be of little help for fear of pissing off the shop that does their work.

Where are you? It might be nice to get opinions from people who have already bought from them. Dealer support is pretty important. I could buy a Supreme or Centurion and stay in my home town, but instead I drive 110 miles to get service. The supreme dealer gives good service but the 23 foot model sucks as far as a wake goes. Mercruiser engines don't turn my fancy either.
                        Be excellent to one another.

I'm going to talk with the Tige dealer, we have had a good relationship over the years with regards to gear and he is pretty personable. I'd feel bad buying somewhere else, but at the end of the day its about getting the most for my dollar. I would be dealing out of Edmonton and dealer support is important. When I visit the dealers I'm going to be feeling the place out and see how they treat me, right now I'm just a tire kicker in their eyes so we will see. To me it just seems dis-jointed to buy at the dealer and then take the boat somewhere else. With my current boat I can go back to where I bought and they know me and I can talk to the salesman and mechanic at the same time/place. If I have a problem its dealt with where I bought it, not running back and forth between the west end and the southside. I agree I'm not interested in the Merc Engine, just a preference thing.

                            Hyper ,
I am doing almost the same here in Calgary with the boat choices .
you have asked some great questions .
We just sold our Larson 180 sport 18'4.3 to make the move to a V Drive for both kids 12 & 14. any info you get @ the dealer LMK The Calagry Tige (Hyperactive) did not have any 2009 info or the Moomba Dealer.
Right now we have decided on ether the Tige 20v or the Outback V both 2009 models. we have a limit on the lenght for us so 20' max.

Drive both boats. I also almost bought a Mastercraft but the Tige handled better and I wasn't willing to Pay 9K more for a Mastercraft.
