So this weekend I got a new video camera. A sony handycam dcr-sr45 HDD. I put all the videos on my computer and then tried to edit everything using Windows Movie Maker. It says it doesn't support some of the streams and will only play the audio of the video. Any help? I am new to this video editing and making.

Can't offer much help here, but I just went through the owner's manual on Sony's website and it was pretty much useless, however I saw that it came with a sony software disc and you might want to try installing that to edit/make movies, actually it calls it a movie browser software so it might allow you to save them out as a different format once you copy them from camera to computer. Sorry if this is all stuff you have done, but that is what I had to go through with mine.

Get a mac. The movie editing programs that come with the computer are simple and intuitive. My efforts to edit video on a PC (with three different editing programs, including the Sony program) wasted two of my weekends, with pathetic results.
If you must use a PC, make sure the format of the video coming from the camera into the PC matches the editing programs. You may have to convert your footage to a format the program will recognize. Google is your friend!

I used WMM 2 years ago. It wasnt great but its was not the best either. I made a slideshow of highlights of 10 years of a family reumion. Made the slideshow in Power Point and then converted it into a Video, then added music and finalized in WMM.
To add music you import an Mp3 and then at the bottom where the timeline is one is for video and the other for audio. The audio file should appear there and you can fade and trim etc.Common Sense is not so Common
