    BS180 Sequence Photo

Recently got a Canon 40D which takes 6.5 frames per second. It is great for sequence photos, no so great on CF cards. Over the last two weekends I have been trying to land the backside 180. Haven't got it yet, but getting close. The photo wasn't one of my better attempts but it had the best lighting. Also, I gotta give credit to my girlfriend for all the photo editing she did in GIMP to get the sequence.

BTW - Have been trying at 20MPH, 65ft and no ballast. So no "your wake looks small jokes"

Nice picture. Good choice on the lighting.
How can I be racist when all of my assault rifles are black?

Great try... Looks like you need to start your handle pass a little sooner but I am sure are aware of it.

          Thanks for sharing.

Seriously... looks like you are tasty close. The pict editing is awesome.

I have been working on it on the trampoline, but I messed up my neck earlier this summer with a solid whiplash crash. When you fall, has it been killing your neck or do you fall forward?

The handle's in the water by that point...

Nice looking attempt! And you've gotta love the drift away ending v. the catching the back edge and getting the 'brainstem' ending.

Only comment on the wake would be that it looks a little narrow - but it is a 'bu, and at shortline.

I could never land a 180 on my ski.
If its not fun, Why do it?

Haven't ever caught an edge trying this. I started doing this by working inside-outs, then I tried it wake to wake. Half of the time I over rotate it because of my head, the other half of the time I fumble the handle around because I haven't figured out if I want to land blind or pass the handle.

Doing the 360 is no problem because I can pull all the way around and land normally. The problem I am having is landing blind. It just feels awkward to land while looking behind you.

So you can land a 360 but not a blind 180?

Maybe I can give you a little tip that might help you stick the HS BS 180. You should not be looking behind you when you land this trick. I noticed in the sequence that you are indeed looking "behind" i.e. away from the boat. A big part of landing this trick is your head position when you land. Try looking out into the flats (where your momentum will carry you if/when you land it). In other words, you should be looking over your right shoulder perpendicular to the line of the boat. This should keep you better balanced when you land and keep you from the dreaded neck-breaking whiplash that comes from catching that rear edge. (trust me I've knocked myself out cold a few times from similar crashes)

Progressive edge, pop and pull the rope with your left hand to your left hip, reach around and grab with right hand, and then bring your head around so that you are looking in the direction your flight is carrying you and when you land try to keep cutting out into the flats. That should keep that edge from catching. Good luck and post a sequence of you landing it!!
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

A 360 is MUCH easier than a blind 180. The part about it being "blind" is what makes that trick more difficult. Also you are landing switch which is usually pretty hard for people. A 360 you are jumping and landing regular and when you land you are facing the boat.
