But I had that same problem - the belt looked fine. I tightend it on several different occasions. It turned out that replacing the belt resolved it

When a belt gets old, it will become hard and brittle and lose it's ability to grip the pulleys. The impeller on a boat puts quite a bit of load on the belt.
