    After Market Cruise

Hey guys, this season my speedo has taken a turn for the worse and the click well has broken. I am faced with a few options.

    1. I'm thinking about buying a cruise that would require no help from the wheel so if it ever breaks again it doesn't matter. So i was looking at buying one of these www.zerogps.com. The website doesn't say anything about cruises for Tige's. I have also heard that after market cruise are a hunk of junk. So i was wondering if anyone has installed one of these or if they have another suggestion on a cruise for me.

    2. Put in a different type of device to read the speed. I forgot what my dealer called it but it involved cutting out a hole in the hull and running water through it will going and reading the water going through the hole to measure the speed. Then i wouldn't worry about getting the click wheel broken off.

    3. Replace the paddle wheel and hope it doesn't break again.

    any suggestions are helpful. thanks

What year and model is your boat? That will help us determine what would be okay. There is Drive by Wire throttle and there is cable throttles.

BTW, there's also PerfectPass Stargazer. It's a GPS based system.

If you boat has a Mechanical operated engine you can not use Zero Off. But you can use Perfect Pass Stargazer. And no aftermarket speed control is not a hunk of junk. Usually the factory installed speed control is junk, or close to it. Aftermarket will hold speed better, have more functions, and function better.

Then you should be good to do Zero Off If you want to spend the little extra. Its better than Perfect Pass anyway.

You will definately want to make sure of that as pointed out already, Zero off does not work with a mechanical system.

I'm not sure who told you that aftermarket cruises are junk, but where to they think factory cruises came from? And what to they think the pro's are using?

Installation really isn't bad. I installed Perfect Pass and the instructions were good, and their Customer Service is excellent if you have questions.

So a Zero Off is the way to go then?

As long as its compatible with your engine, its the better choice.

So does anyone know for sure if the 06 340 gm vortec is TBW?

Can some one also tell me which one to order cause on this site http://zerogps.com/index.php?cPath=4...6a17efa83915d9

it doesn't list tige as a company they sell speed sets for.

If your engine is mechanical it will have a cable (probably red) connecting the throttle control to a linkage on the side of the throttle body. If it is TBW (Throttle by Wire) there would be some sort of electrical actuator moving the butterfly in the throttle body.

The engine in your boat may be a 2005, our 2000 21V has a 1999 engine in it.

Perfect Pass doesn't really list Tige, either, but they do have a Tige display (white background now, not yellow):
                          http://www.perfectpass.com/Perfect_Pass_displays.html

Speed controls are sold for the particular engine you have, not boat manufacturer. The displays are available with most manufacturers name on them. There is a mechanical setup for most older boats and a couple of versions (minus the servo/cable) for the different types of TBW (or DBW) systems.

I put a Perfect Pass in our boat and it works great. They have a new upgrade to the system that replaces the paddle wheel with a GPS receiver.

Your 06 340 should be a TBW as 06 was the first year the Tige Accu-Set was an option, and you had to upgrade to the MP 340 to get it.

Like R&T said, just look under the hood for a cable and linkage to be 100% sure.
