Group buy for an oil sucker...

SBFan tells me there is a tool that will suck all of the oil out of the pan with it just attached to the oil dipstick hole. It will spill a few drops at best.

I would like to change the oil twice as often as I like to have the dealer service the engine, but I am unsure about trying to get it sucked out via the hose on the bottom of the pan (I think there is one down there somewhere).

SB says that the unit costs around $350. I wondered if there could be one purchased for Tigeowners.com members and then just shipped around as we each need it. Shipping would probably cost $25 but would be a whole lot cheaper than hauling the boat to my dealer for just an oil change.

Can we trust one of us not to scam off with the tool? After the initial purchase it would sort of run around between the guys that paid into it sort of like Ragboy's surf ballast setup.

    Whaddaya think?

For less then the shipping to do 2 oil changes, you all could have one of these!

Had mine for about 6+ yrs now and it works like a champ.

What is that doohickey, and where do I find it?

I figured that there is probably a cheaper unit out there. This is the kind of discussion I was hoping to start. Thanks, CHP.

I got mine from Overtons, but looks just like this one @ Boaters World for about $35 http://www.boatersworld.com/product/367210010.htm

I mounted it to the lid of a bucket, which makes it real easy and clean to change oil. Works great on the V-drive and trans to.

I use the same thing, it works with the drain hose from the bottom and you get power from your batteries.

So it does not suck it through the dipstick hole?

How long does it take? Does it seem like a "sturdy" unit?

Warm up the engine as usual before any oil change, and then takes less then 5 minutes to suck out.

I got mine in 01 or 02 when we got the new I/O. Used it once a season with no problems. Since getting the Tige, Ive been using it twice a season. Even with that, I think it will last for quite a few more years.

Excellent! I think I will order one up. I had been hesitant to buy one of the "cheaper" units because I hadn't heard any reviews on them.

Go with one of these, it is $59.00 and will suck the oil out of the drain hose. No electricity needed.

That one doesn't hold enough though does it?

I bought this one last year and it works like a charm, yes it holds enough to drain the motor in one suck.

This one does have an attachment so that it hooks to the oil dipstick tube, but only holds 4 liters.

The other one holds 6 liters, but I think you would have to dig out the oil tube. That probably is not a big deal.

You rather drain from the hose to get all of the stuff off the bottom of the pan. We always remove the oil from the drain hose.

I just attach one of the pumps you attach to a drill and then attach it to the drain hose. Works very well and costs 15 bucks at your local hardware store.
