Water ski wakes on tig'e 20V

I am looking at the 20V for a waterski boat. None to demo nearby. Don't wakeboard but the kids do. I slalom ski almost every day in the summer. The wife want's something with more room than the inboard nautique, but I need a waterski boat. Any first hand info from course ski'ing members about wakes on any recommended boat would be appreciated.

v-drive boats are fine for recreational slalom. if you are a course guy, you probably will be disapointed. I sold my direct drive malibu for a 21' tige v-drive for the exact same reasons. we all love the tige for the room & storage and would not go back to a direct drive. you will notice some los of power out of the hole, but still will have plenty! the ski wake will be better than an I/O but not like a direct drive.

We had a tri-hull I/O before and the wake behind our 21V is definitely better for ski. Our original equipment prop (OJ 14-18) seemed a bit sluggish, but since we put on an Acme #537 13.5-16 there is more than enough power out of the hole. I had to really adjust the way I pushed the throttle. I now give the throttle an initial nudge and slowly ramp it up - no more "floor it", it's too much. Skiers and wake boarders just pull right out with no loss of power. We only recreational ski, but since we started using an 85-95 ft rope the wake is fairly flat out there. We love the room in ours. We regularly have 2-3 adults & 6-8 kids. In the lockers are 3 sets of double skis, ropes & a towable on one side, 3 kneeboards and a towable on the other, 3 wake boards & a single on the tower and a set of little skis under a seat.

I just got back to the house from doing a little slalom behind my 20V. I am nowhere near anything close to being good on one ski, so my opinion is probably pretty useless but, my buddies dd is MUCH easier to rip across the back of. For a crappy skier like me it can be sorta sketchy on mine when the water isn't perfect. It seems to be a lot easier/nicer to cross the bump when the water is butter--how often do you really get that?


You just need to demo the boat before you buy it and see what YOU think.

I have the 22i and am a slalom skiier. If you are comfortable between 30-32 mph, it is a fantastic boat. I have a family of 6... yes 6 and there is plenty of room for all! Take a look at the layout.

I have a Switch V (same boat as today's 20V), and I have always been a slalom skier. I grew up with I/O boats, and really like the wake behind my boat. When I was looking for a boat, the local Tige dealer told me that 20i will give you a smaller wake, but not a ton smaller. He also said that the 21V was designed to be a wakeboard boat, and doesn't have a great slalom wake. I have never been behind a 21V, so I don't know if it's true or not.

I like my boat best when I have < 1/2 take of fuel, and only my wife and kids on the boat. I also put my taps a little over 1 to soften the wake a little bit.

I have a 20V, I don't ski the course anymore, but I do still like to ride pretty hard. With just a driver and 1 passenger, and Taps @ 2 my wake is just as nice as my buddies 1990 Ski-Centurion.

I've been trying to sell my '01 21i and buy a 20V but I'm having a hard time letting go of my 21i because of how nice the wake is. I ski pretty hard and have been doing a lot of tournament skiing this summer and I want to try and get behind a 20V before I make the purchase. If the wake is only a little bigger than my 21i I can deal with that.

Being in Colorado, we really only have a month or so left of the season, it seems as if as the water gets colder, my family wimps out in the fall time.

If things don't work out this year, we can always try for next spring. Also, if you are looking at buying a new boat, or a used boat from WWS, I'm sure Bill would give you a test drive, and a quick pull of a 20V. It's much easier for them to pull a boat out in the fall, then it would be for me if my boat has already been winterized.

Yeah the cold water doesn't really scare me I'll probably have the boat out until mid october. I was skiing up at horsetooth this fall first week in March. You just have to rewinterize the boat after going out every time. I wish Bill had a used 20V, thats where I got my other boat and he has always been great to deal with

I have the 20V but due to a shoulder injury have not really gave the boat a good workout on the ski, but I have gone out and gave it a couple of turns on my good shoulder. I used to compete when I was younger and I will say the wake is excellent for a V-drive. You'll never get the same wake as a MC 190 or a BU Response, but you're talking about completely different hulls and total boat weight. Just the added weight of having a tower on the boat can really effect the slalom wake. That being said I skied at 30mph with the taps around 2 with just two people in the boat and I was very impressed by the lack of wake for a V-drive boat. I have skiied the BU VTX with the cut diamond hull & the MC X2 and the 20V's wake has them beat hands down. It's probably because the taps allows you to make that slight adjustment. Again the 20V is never gonna be a true DD ski boat, but if you strip as much weight out of it as you can I think of all the V-drives, it's as close as you're gonna get.

My teenagers wakeboard, my wife and I are slalom skiers... Heh, old lake dogs are hard to teach new tricks! Anyways, was coming out of the Ski Brendella I had for years (no wake) and tried a friends 22v--just couldn't tolerate the wake no matter what TAPS setting was used. Then went with another buddy who had a new 22i--Ahhh... that's more like it! Great wake for slalom, not as flat as the Brendella but still very good in a much larger/heavier boat with significantly more room and storage--and still a good wakeboard boat with the TAPS set properly. Maybe not as good as the V-boats, but it beat the pants off of them for slalom. Made my decision easy--before the next season (last summer) a new 22i was sitting in my garage. No regrets, great dual purpose boat.
