Bad Transmission, Bad Motor...What's next?!

I have 250 hours on my 2007 24Ve, and 90% of those hours are towing wakeboarders and surfers. Prob 200 hours listed on one side. I have not had a single engine/transmission problem. As a matter of fact, after 3 days of surfing for 6 hours each day, I was the chase boat at the NorCal surf comp this past weekend, and my boat was probably running for 10+ hours that day.
I do feel your pain, hope it gets worked out, and I hope I get up to 1000 hours on this thing before trading up.
On a side note, I baby the thing as far as service goes, and its parked in a warehouse in doors when not on the water. Not to say I have not had issues. The tige vinyl sucks, the longer you use it, the worse you realize it is. And my trailer brakes never worked until I took care of it myself, but that is not with tige, mostly my dealer.http://wake9.com/

I have to disagree with you that you need to back off the throttle. I have experience with these motors and boats. They are more than capable of running at WOT for some period of time if you are willing to go through the fuel. If you are telling me that my $60,000 tournament wakeboard/waterski boat is not capable of running at 4,100rpm or 40mph I would have never bought it or I would sell it right now. There are many slalom skiers that ski at around 35-37mph. I sure hope my motor can handle that.

So, your brother never got nothing from the dealer, when he had the problem? Nothing at all? No work order, no canceled checks from having the boat in for service, nothing?
You said Mesa, I'm guessing Arizona, so did this boat sit outside, covered for the first owner? Now your in Vegas? Very hot climates, so I guess you have potential for more issues, if you don't stay current with your fluids and the changing of said fluids, regardless of use. Hot Climates, means you could potentially lose a seal/gasket as well, dry rotting, especially from NOT being used.
I think you gotten some good advise and I wish you luck.
I'm 500 plus hours and still pulling strong. I don't baby anything-but I do take massive maint care of her. Often times, she overweighted, sank it twice, and I will ride it like a mental patient over 4000 rpms for days. She's as good as the day her virgin transom first touched liquid....“Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy &#*! what a ride!”

Stored indoors in Pheonix. Serviced by the dealer there. Had it serviced in Vegas this year. All fluid levels good. Boat looks and ran like new before the cylinder went dead...except for the trans issue.
The mechanic at the dealer didn't write anything down when my brother brought it to his attention at the time of service. Just gaffed it off as a "linkage" problem. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit. Aristotle
