I agree. With the exception of the 20i all smaller I drives and maybe some Vs before 2003 are awesome slalom boats. Which is what tige was going for at first.

Problem #1 is that I cant do it very long before I am worn out and problem #2 is that we are usually in small coves and at 32 mph you are at the other end and have to turn around. Also, the older style 21i has a NICE slalom wake. Mine is '98 2100wt(21i) and at 32 mph or faster, taps at 3 and 22 off it is not perfect but very very nice!!
Dents why do you run your plate at 3, I run mine at 1-2 just to make the wake a little softer. My experience with going up that high on the plate is the wake starts to grow!!

I have experimented at different speeds and taps settings. At 1 and 2 the wake has almost an i/o type wake forming in the center. With the taps at 3 it flatttens out the middle and the softens it up. At longer lines it might be better at 1 or 2 but never go that long. I go at either 22 or 28 off and the wake itsself is a non issue at the 3 setting but the trough is a little deep and wide so pretty much have to bounce over it.

H2OSKIER, what speed and rope length do you run when open water skiing?

Reading this thread has brought back many a great slalom memory. When I was about 17, my buddy and I built our own portable slolam course out of PVC pipe, milk bottles, orange bueys? from Overtons and rope. We would take to the end of bullfrog bay at Lake Powell and do nothing but ski for days. Now I suffer great pain. Skied last friday morning and pulled something in my back and have been paying the price all week. Still love to cut and hold it through the wake for maximum speed.

Love the post about the Maharaja water ski. That was the ski you had to have. They are beautiful, but they are slower than tar. When I bought the RZ4 I made the dealer throw in a new Connelly for fat guys. Its a great ski!

The 20v actually has a pretty good ski wake. I has been used as a croos over

I have been thinking about upgrading this next year to a '05-'07 20V from my '01 21i I know the 21i will always have the better wake for skiing but how much of a difference will there really be??

That is great to see that there is still people that like to slalom. I have a couple of buddies and we live for the early morning glass.

Wakeboarding is way more painful than slalom. Even when you're flying across the wake while the boat's going 34, falling doesn't seem to hurt so much. Catch an edge on a wakeboard and you feel like you've been in a car crash.

I love it when my boys and their friends come out on the boat. They will mess around with wake skate , wakesurf and wakeboarding...

Then the adults get to go. I go out and throw 8 air rolls in a row and the kids realize that this old fat bald dude still has game
If its not fun, Why do it?

Gotta love the Maha, it's pretty much a sure thing you won't be seeing another on the lake. Ahicken, when you said they were slow were you talking about the "Fastback" skis or their slalom skis? I know this is just my third year skiing but could swear the Maha felt faster on the water then my buddy's other ski, although I can't remember the name. Anyway just for the craftsmanship that goes into one, and for the beauty, I'll be on one forever
