3 almost 4 too young to wakeboard?

My son has been behind the U shaped ski for over a year now. He is 3 years 9 months. He is cutting back and forth and can hold on over the rollers. I am thinking of trying him on a small wakeboard next trip. 109 with some tiny bindings and see how he does? He tubes with the big kids now and is riding with us on the wake surfer. Last trip he wanted the first ski every day! I am just not sure if he can hold onto the rope at his age. He can hold onto the tube while his body is fully air born like superman and not let go. What do you think?

    Go for it

I wonder if you can make a U type wakebaord set up. Have the boat pull the board and just have slip on bindings like the ski.

I think it depends on the kid. My 5 years old is still affraid to try wakeboarding, he just started to try the knee board.

I found out that if I try to push them it takes longer. I just let them take their time and tell me when they are ready to try and I jump in the water with them.

The important for my kids is to have fun without pressure.

My daughter who is now 7 started sking with two ski at 3.5, but not untill this year was she strong enough for wakboarding. The second problem she has is she only weighs 53 pounds. she is having a hard time riding behind the boat due to no being able to put a enough weight on the back of the board to steer very well. So she is a trick rider and always rides out side the wake....

When we got my nephew to finally try it, he was 8 but is very small for his age, more like a 5 year old, poor little guy. My wakeshop gave me the best idea to try to get him up. We took our tube and just put it out in the water free floating, then my wife got on the tube with him, wee pushed them out and gave him the handle and my wife helped him hold the handle we put the boat in geat and drug him a little so he could feel the board with water flowing over it and then we just throttled up a little and he was able to stand up at about 10 mph and leave the tube behind. He stayed up for about 50 feet twice and then was tired. So basically it was a dock start and he really enjoyed it and wants to try it next year when they come back. Good luck!

That is a good idea, we always we out there with them. We would sart clost to shore so if they stayed up we could just swim over and get out of the way of idiots.

I bet if he had a good "Coach" he could do it.

As long as they are not afraid and do not have a bad experience, give it a try. Just keep it fun. If the kid has a great time, and a few laughs, it's all good. I have also used the above technique with a tube or have them sit on a kneeboard - using a tube is easier.

Let it be his choice!!! Not dad's!!! He will find the will to hold on to the rope.

Bottom line, if he really wants to, he'll be able to.

                        My son started @ 6.

I don't force anything with my kids. My daughter is not into the skiing but loves tubing and she is 6. When she wants to do it we will work on it. My son want to do everything all the other kids are doing.

The tube idea sound good. Not very practical where we are going next week but I think I can put him on a tube and have him hold the handle to get the feel. Maybe I can round up a few knee boards so he can try that.
