    Cracked tower

To start with i am completely agreeing that i am an idiot, what happened was i was backing the boat up to the door in my shop and it is like two inches too short to back the boat in with the tower up and i have always known that, i was just going to back it up the tower and then stop to quick clean the inside, well long story short my phone rang and i was not paying attention and hit the tower on the building and cracked the weld in the tube right in front of the light, i am going to have it welded, think i will run into any problems down the road?

He is young, but my best friend from high school but he has been running his own machine shop since we graduated and that was in 2003, so he must be pretty good

Dont feel bad, I tried backing my old 85 Mastercraft in to the garage with the wakeboard pylon still attached, not once but twice. The repair will be fine if repaired properly with a strong weld

You should move here to California where here the government has eliminated that type of accident. You are no longer allowed to use a hand-held phone in your vehicle. See, problem solved. I for one am happy that our legislature is so helpful.

Pretty soon there will be no more potential for accidents or dangerous behavior here in our great and progressive state. No, wait, the Governor has just had to lay off 22,000 contract and part time state workers and cut state worker pay to minimum wage because the State is going bankrupt and can't pass a budget. But, not to worry, the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco have taken up the flag by outlawing fast-food restaurants in poor areas (LA), and prohibiting drug-stores from selling tobacco products (SF). Whew, I thought there'd be a lapse in progressive initiatives.

it happens, my friend backed his new waksetter into the garage with the tower up and completely destroyed the tower.

i pulled my boat out of the shed once and the roller door was hanging down and hooked the tower. didnt hurt the tower but it dragged the roller door off!

I dont think that the law prohibits phone useage when you are on your own property

Damn, they'll have to get on that one right away. Thanks for the heads-up!
And to think that they could have covered that loophole when they were outlawing smoking in your own apartment.

Well if you are renting you dont own the apartment and plus there may be other issues with that because you have people on every side of you, and most landlords like my self dont allow smoking in the home anyway.

My friend came and looked at my tower last night and said it will not be a problem, just hopefully we dont melt the wires inside the tower. He thinks it will be ok if he just goes slow.

One thing to watch for when re-welding a tower is you need to remove all of the wires for at least 4 feet in each direction or they will melt down and can short out your electical system. Also if your welder is not familiar with welding anodized pipe he will need to lightly grind the area of the weld. Hope this helps
