      Pull

A slight pull to the right is normal because of the prop rotation. Most people don't notice the pull as much if their cable is going out. A new cable is not responsible for the pulling, it's just that a worn cable doesn't move as freely, so it's less noticeable. Your steering pull sounds excessive and probably a little dangerous. We used to increase the right pull on our personal boats for slalom course use so they would track a straighter line. But that's not a good set up for recreational use or for inexperienced boaters. Anyway, to take out some of the right hand pull, you would round off the left trailing edge of the rudder (the left of the rudder looking from the back of the boat to the front) with a grinder. If you're not comfortable or experienced with doing this, I would recommend that you take it to your local dealer or inboard repair shop. They can probably take care of it inexpensively. It may take a couple of grindings and water tests to get the steering where you want it.

Jake: kinda funny, but if your bad cable locks up on you in a turn you could end up in a wreck or on the rocks. Moral to the story: do not delay replacing a sticking, worn or old steering cable.
