    Ballast Issues

A couple of days ago we were out and I was filling up the ballast, well I forgot to shut the front pumps off and all of the sudden i noticed water leaking every where. I shut the pumps off and emptied the tanks a bit to reduce the pressure (they are sacs), and all was well. Now yesterday we were out and the tanks won't fill up. I can hear the pumps run but no water comes in. I'm thinking I may have burnt up the impellers. Does anyone know where to get some new ones or have any experience with this? Seems like an easy fix to me.

Cant burn the impellers on the aerator type pump as they do not contact the side of the housing. These pumps can run for days on end and not damage the impellers.

The system should vent when full, so leaking water in the boat is another matter, sounds like a kinked vent hose for the bow sac, may have split a seem or popped a hose or fitting.

Not fill now is also strange.

It was venting but not as fast as the pumps could pump it in. The funny thing about it is that neither of the front pumps will pump water into the sacs. I've turned them on seperate and they are both making noise.

May need to get a helper and disconnect one of the fill lines at the sac and kick the pump on a see if it flows.

welcome to hard plumbed ballast systems, my front bags wont seem to fill up either (vapor locking). i will reverse the boat with the pumps on and the pressure will push the air bubble out and then everything fills fine. I'm getting ready to switch to tsunami pumps, see if that helps.

How do the aerator style pumps work with a manifold in front of them? Do you basically have to "push" the water into them to get them primed?

The aerator pumps are not self-priming and prefer to push water instead of suck. The can vapor-lock if the manifold is full of air.

Not sure what you mean by if the manifold is in front of them. the aerators are built into their own manifold. They work great if you get your check valves in the right spots to eliminate the air getting trapped. You will not need to push water in to prime them if set up correctly as I had to tweak in my system. If done correctly the pumps will always have water in them while on the lake.

After you fixed the vapor lock problem
