I always wave.

Last weekend I waved at an X-star (of course). The two (hot) girls on the back sunpad waved back and the guy in the middle of them gave me the "look right through you like you aren't even there" look. I immediatly started laughing. I guess he saw it and didn't like it. He got the boat driver to wip around and catch us. I came to a stop. Let them approach. The guy was "WTF you luaghin about?". I told him I thought it was funny that the girls waved and he looked through me like he was too cool. Then almost on perfect que, my (hot) wife jumps up, and says to the two girls "don't you hate it when you are just trying to be courtous and a guy acts like a douchebag". All the girls and the rest of the guys on the X-star were rolling. His buddies told him to stop acting like a db and they were on there way.

The boater's wave is not to act cool, it is a common courtesy and IMO a bit of southern hospitality. Where I grew up every vehicle you passed on the highway would wave. The thing about it is that boater's are a group or family that has to depend on each other. Boating is not a safe or dependable activity/sport and if I ever need help, I want people to remember me or my boat as the one who was always friendly and waved. A couple of cases in point, I broke down, like we all have before and the first two boats that I waved down refused to help me, what is the world coming to? When I was 16 years old I was fishing in a river when a very bad thunderstorm (40+ mph winds) seemed to come out of nowhere. When I got back to the boat ramp there was a guy in a large bass boat floating down stream and trying to paddle back against the wind and the current. Several large boats flew right past him to get out of the weather. I was in a 12 ft jon boat with a 6 hp motor and I went over and had him throw me a line and proceeded to tow him in. The man was very grateful and offered me a large amount of money (at least for a 16 year old) but I refused it because I was just doing the right thing. We should all take a step back and remember how lucky we are and always be willing to help a fellow Americans in need. I apologize for getting on a soap box here but it ticks me off when people do not wave and when they are jack@$$es in general.

One final story, I had a friend who was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico by himself on a pontoon boat. He got his finger stuck between the door and rail of the boat while stepping off to wade fish and ripped his pinky off completely. He remained calm and made the two mile trip back to the ramp but he had to wave down another boater on the way to have him dial 911 because he did not have a cell phone. Imagine if he had gone into shock, then where would he have been without his fellow boaters? This is what makes us unique and why we should always be hospitable (wave) to each other. You never know when you may be the on in need.

I live in a small 12000 population rural southern minnesota town where i have lived my whole life and boated since i was a tike, i know most people on the lake and wave at everyone, never know when you might need help, most the time i wave at the fishermen because i know they want to kill me for sending three foot waves twords their 14 foot boats

I just rolled through last week. I had the family with me and I wanted to get home so I literally rolled through and did not look back. When you are gone from home for a whole week it is time to get home.

My kids go bananas waving to people. It's something for them to do so they leave me alone while I enjoy my beverage in the no-wake channels.

We wave to every boater here when passing them. If the driver is really concentrating (and you can always tell) and doesn't see you, I would 98% of the time you get a wave back from the passengers... IF they don't wave first!

When I drive out of the city to our family ranch in Western, OK your fingers get a work out. As you do the finger wave to EVERY car you pass. But maybe that's just a rancher/farmer thing.

it doesant cost you anything to give a quick wave, i personally wave at everyone, just to be polite.

i feel its especially important if you drive something like a big expensive tige that you wave, so you dont just look like a rich snobby wave maker. other river/ lake users where we are can be resentfull at the waves we make (primarily rowers and fishermen), so its important to try and be polite!!

I'd shoot myself if i had six kids! I have two daughters & four grandsons (remember I'm old ). I grew up in a family of six kids, myself being the oldest and i boogied as soon as i was 18! Grandkids are cool, i can send 'em home when i'm done with them!

Oh yeah i've been mooned many times on the lake, it's one of my buddies favorite moves while boarding! Ever seen an "air moon" 180?

Btw I did wave at the guy that douched me twice ... the last time i only had one finger up though

People always wave and I wave back at Lake Powell. If they are in a Tige at any lake, I usually chase them down to talk with them.
