    Impeller Question

I have a Mercruiser 350 Mag that I replaced the Impeller on today. Can you get the cover on the water pump housing to tight?

The boat seemed to run great afterwards. We went out and anchored for a couple of hours. When leaving the boat would start run for a couple of seconds then turn off. It did this for about 10 minutes I finally got it into gear with out it stoping and got back to the marina. There I tried starting it a few times and everything was OK. Not sure what happened.

I don't thing the impeller is the problem. Did you replace the housing?

If it is working okay for you now I would leave it but the next round I would replace the housing. They are plastic and not that expensive. And because they are plastic they tend to have a lot of issues with those.

Do you get any alarms or intermittent beeps when running at higher RPMs?

This is on a mercrusier..The housing is metal on these. It appeared to be in good shape. No burs or anything. I did notice that one of the bracket screws worked lose a little. Don't think that caused the problem though.

No alarms...and the temp was good right at 175F. Hopefully it was just a fluke. I did get gas at a marina the day before. I am hoping it was not bad.

I am going to take it out on evening this week and see if the problem returns.

                  Thanks

No you can no longer get the metal housing. They changed them to plastic because the metal was corroding and pitting out to easy. They used to be just aluminum.

Mercury has made a bunch of changes and engineering mistakes. I don't think I would like any of those engines in my boat.

So you are saying you would not have a mercruiser....To each there onw...he pump is metal though....Probably aluminum...and the recommended replacement part is also metal... Mine appears to be in good shape.
