I have surfed in California and Hawaii - just a novice on the ocean. As Dogbert said, Utah is not near the coast. There is California, Nevada, and then Utah moving from the west coast. We had the 2002 Winter Olympics here in Utah - lots of good snowboarding and skiing.

Up north we have mountain lakes that warm up to about 20 Celcius and down south is more desert (think of grand canyon) and the lakes down there are around 30 Celsius in the summer with an air temperature of 38 Celcius. Do you get snow close to you?

that sounds like a pretty perfect place, 30 degree lakes, thats like a bath!! i went for a board the other day in the river and even with two wetsuits on it was still freezing.
we do get snow, but its around 12hours drive south from where i live, and then again aus isnt renound for great snow, so its nothing to get too excited about.
i did a trip to steam boat springs a few years back to do some skiing/boarding and that was some of the best snow ive seen!!

You would love Utah snow, it has been waist deep several times this year. The theory is that Utah has the driest, fluffiest snow because of its proximity of the mountains next to the desert. But I would think that Colorado snow is pretty close. Next time you come to the US for a ski trip - try Utah and I'll give you a personal tour!
