The pix of your arm would be cool but I want some pix of the girls on the back of the boat!!
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. Albert Einstein
Many moons ago when living on the farm I was up on a barn roof. On the side of the barn were many deer antlers hung as trophies. I lost my footing and slid down the roof. I went off the side and stopped about 6 inches short of hitting the ground.
What stopped me was the deer antler that was impaled in my arm pit. With my one good hand I had to reach around and lift myself off the antler. I was not as fortunate as you as it hurt really bad and was bleeding badly. Fortunately I did not hit the main vein in the arm pit.
I had to make a trip to the local doctor and required 18 stiches to close the wound with 8 of those stitches being to close internal damage.
It amazes me that such dull objects can pierce skin and do it so cleanly.
The next week all the antlers were removed and discarded from the side of the barn.
I actually had a treble hook (actually 2 out of 3) impaled in my finger. One was in my finger still and the other all the way through. Lucky for me my buddy hadn't bent back the barbs, so I got the full experience pulling them back through. I had to do it myself because my buddy couldn't bring himself to do it.
...and here I was trying to be the good fishing buddy by taking his pike of his line.
The worst part was that we had to get the fish unhooked before we could get me unhooked

So after this weekend, I now know what a fish feels like.
So we were doing our normal thing, of hosting the concert in the cove, putting the 485's to good use . Some older lady in a flat bottom came and asked for some nickle back. I said let me finish this particular mix, as the girls were busy ummmm.... well... NVM.
So then I went to lay on my belly across the sun pad to get it from her. All of a sudden I slowly started sliding in. I went to catch myself but couldn't. But I finally did get caught. And got stuck in a funky position... but couldn't get loose for whatever reason. I was laying there flopping like a fish on the back of the old boat next to me (yes, just like that) and couldn't get turned over. Well I relaxed for a sec to figure out what was wrong and looked at my arm and noticed.... O geez... there's a TIE UP CLEAT TOTALLY IMPAILED INTO MY BICEP.
I was hooked... Literally. It went through the skin, under my bicep muscle. The muscle was being pulled out of the skin. Finally got to where I could unhook myself. Got back on the boat. Gained my composure after seeing muscle, and fat hanging out my arm, along w/ seeing the bone, cleaned it up, taped it back to together (duct tape... all I had for that...lol... yes there was gauze though from my first aid kit). Sat there for a bit, and watched it. Never bled, the 2" cut was perfectly clean for whatever reason. So figured it was better to sit there and get my head on straight since no one else could drive the boat. I have a pretty strong background in medicine, so I wasn't out my mind by sitting there relaxing for an hour. Besides... I had a nurse giving me a second hand on the taping who's top was well... paid for!
The thing never hurt once, and like I said before... it wasn't bleeding at all. So finally made my way back to the cabin, ate dinner; made my way to the hospital and got my stitches. But I missed the damn fireworks... I should have waited to go to the hospital...lol. So yes... I now know what a fish feels like.
Can't believe the dull a$$ tie up cleat on that old boat went through my arm. Nor the fact there was 0 pain! Guess it could have been worse. So that was my 4th of July story!
Be careful with infection. One of my kids had a really bad experience with a compound fracture that later developed a super-bug staph infection. The custom anti-biotic IV cocktail they gave him for several weeks was nasty!
Whatever you do, don't go in the lake! If you must, go get a Xerosox.

Gate theory of pain - nerves and/or the brain can only take so much stimulus before they overload and shut down (or something like that, been quite a few years since I had physiology).
Not so much that you can only handle so much pain, it's that there's not really many nerve endings right there.
It was on the inside/top of the bicep. It's about 3/4" down from the crease of the armpit, where the bicep ties into the shoulder. Hope you guys got that! Basically, flex your bicep, look down and it's right there. So yes... very lucky not to have cut brachial artery.
Good try Tall.... no beer involved this time!...lol. This was 5:30 and i hadn't drank since 1. Was tempted to drink a beer to relax... but thought better, as I didn't want to start bleeding, since I wasn't yet...lol.

My son was not so lucky. He severed the artery. The pics are too gory to look at...really
He was somewhat lucky in that he didn't sever the main nerve right next to the artery. He also had the best ortho surgeon and best plastic surgeon in Texas work on him. The arterial repair took 4.5 hours. Almost lost the use of his arm and now he's got one heck of a scar up his arm from where they had to open up his arm to deal with the muscle swelling caused by lack of blood flow.
Glad it wasn't more serious!

The pic of my arm the day after. For some reason it looks like it's a gaping hole still. Don't know how. Had lots of NuSkin on it. Notice the bruising all the way down, which about the length the Cleat went in.
