    Need opinions on 2000 23V

I know you guys are a wealth of knowledge and I would like to get some opinions on a 2000 23V. I have run across a pretty good deal on one and was wondering the pro's and con's on this model. It has the dual bucket seats.

What I would really like to know is if it has a good wakeboard and surf wake as well as any known issues with this model or year. I believe this model was manufactured with wood and would like to know if anyone has had any issues with that.

The boat seems to be in pretty good shape and has low hours.

I appreciate your help on this as I try and figure out if this is the right boat for my family.

Surfdad has a 23V and that boat can produce a world class surf wake. What tower does the boat have, if it's a metcraft you will have to replace the tower.

I got a 2001 v2300 one year ago - it had 150 hours, monster tower, perfect pass and interior/exterior were in good condition - paid 29500. It seemed like a good deal at the time. I have nothing but good things to say about it - it has been a great boat. With the exception of the starter going out - no mechanical problems. We normally have about 5 to 10 people on it and there is plenty of room for everyone and their stuff.

In the beginning - it seemed like real sloppy steering at low speed, it was challenging to pull into slip or turn around in a tight spot. It just took some practice because handling at slow speeds is no problem now. The wind will catch it good, cuz its a big boat.

I originally had a 4000 lift on the slip - but it couldnt get it all the way out of the water so i had to upgrade to 6000lb lift.

The rear seats stiching started to tear (they get good traffic from people getting in and out of water) - found a place to redo them for $300 and they look like they are holdin up good.

We don't have any ballast yet and we wakeboard quite a bit, it seems like we need to have close to 8 people to get a good surf wake - so ballast will fix that.

Happy to answer any other questions u might have - just send me a pm.

Thanks again guys!! You really are a big help! Still looking at it. The one issue I have is that the boat is out of state (I'm in Texas, boat is in CA) so I can't actually see it. I am seeing if I can get a survey done on it or get it to a Tige dealer.

One thing I did find out is that it has been in salt water a few times, but it was mostly used in fresh water. Should be ok if they flushed it well after being in salt water.

Any specific questions that you guys think I should ask the seller?

Once again I appreciate the help!

Like G-money said we have a 23V. I really think it is the best surf wake that I have ever been on. The Enzo can toss a better surf wake, but only on one side, you have to get TWO enzo's to surf both sides. I think the 23V is probably the best overall hull other than the 04+ 24V. The current Tige hulls don't impress me with their surf wakes. The wakeboard wake is pretty good, the boat is HEAVY, but if you toss a couple of fat buddies on either side of the engine - it's stellar!

                  What is your ballast config?

                    jmstige,

I have two custom sacs - one for both the port and starboard (darkside) sides of the boat. The port bag has a theoretical maximum of 1,600 pounds, but I don't believe I have ever had more than 1,300 pounds loaded, I think it usually hits 1,100 to 1,200. We typically have another 400 to 600 pounds of people ballast. Usually just me (185), my lovely wife Judy (MAYBE 100 pounds with a wet PFD), and my buddy Dennis who fluctuates around 250 pounds. No lead or other sacs, typically.

Speed in those pictures is 11, Taps isn't really functional, for us, but I do keep it set at 4.

I purchased a 02 23v a few months ago and love it very much. For starters if the interior is original you can plan on changing it soon but a boat of that age more than likely is not.Ive owned many different boats and they all have there fare share of flaws tige no more than any other. That model does have wash channels on the bottom which in my opinion need to be modifiedwith custom trim tabs in order to clean the wake up.Also they improve bodyroll and make the taps more functional. All around decent boat though.big sucker would be the a good description.

Btw,if anyone has there interior rebuilt you should remove the plastic film from the foam.It traps water and ruins the vinyl\wood\foam.

                          Where is it in CA?
                          Where was it maintained?
                          Stored inside or outside?
When it was launched in salt water, did they use the trailer or have it lifted in?
If they used the trailer, (and it's not galvanized or aluminum) I would look somewhere else or budget for a new trailer.

The boat I am looking at is in San Diego. The dealer who has the boat said it was only used in salt water a few times. It is registered in AZ and apparently was used there the most. Boat was stored in side. In regards to the trailer, don't know if they used it to launch or lifed it in. My guess is they used the trailer. Here is a link to the boat.

One thing is that I want to take off the "TnT" graphics. Not sure if they are painted or vinyl decals. If they are painted, does anyone know of an easy way to remove them with out damaging the gelcoat?

That boat looks like it's in great shape. The tower looks a lot like Teamallen's tower. I'm partial to red.

I would want to know what the trailer looks like if it's been in salt water.
