Time for Marine Power to Step Up!

Got the news yesterday from my dealer that two of the cylinders in my 07 24ve are in bad shape and only running at about 20%. So he contacted marine power about getting the motor replaced. I think that my dealer is one of the best around and he is doing everything he can for me. He is telling me that marine power wants him to pull the motor out and send it to them. Then after they tear it down they will either rebuild it and send it back or send a new one. Which puts me with out a boat for a month. This is the part that has me pissed off, I have family coming in from 500 miles away for the 4th of july weekend and now we cant go to the lake. And if I dont have my boat back by the 22nd for my lake powell trip then all **** will break loose. Matt my dealer is trying to get marine power to step up and send a motor now so that i am only down for a week or two.

I really love my boat, but I am ready for all the problems to be fixed, so that I can get back on the lake and enjoy it. I have had computer issues with the boat for about a year now. Matt has done everything he can to fix these issues, but now it is time for marine power or tige to step up and get this thing fixed.

Okay, I have to ask. MP has stepped up and said that they will fix your engine. Why does Tige or MP have to step up to the plate when they are following thru on their agreement with you?

I just don't understand because it's definitely not your fault that the engine is not working correctly but MP has already said that they will warranty the engine.

What I see here is that you want them to expedite a service. Is that what you are really asking them to do?

How many hours on the boat?

Depending on how new your boat is and if it is still under warranty, I would expect your dealership to step up and provide you a boat until yours is repaired. Just my opinion...

I under stand your frustration, but I see things from Marine Power's point of view. They need to know exactly what caused the engine failure to determine whether or not it is a warrantable repair.

If they send a new engine to install now, would you be willing to pony up the repair cost later, if Matt come back and says it was due to abuse/neglect and not an internal engine failure?

I would hold off on pulling a WH and dragging Tige, Matt, and MP's name through the mud, til you know more about what failed, and how each wants to proceed

Fixing this stuff costs money..a lot. They can't just ship you a new engine and junk the old one everytime somethng goes wrong, that's how companys break themselves. I'm sure your engine just needs to be refreshed with rings and gaskets. Engines are highly salvageable and there is no reason to junk one unless the block is cracked. I think MP is a great company. My ECM went out and my engine was firing on about half the cylinders. Eventhough it was out of warranty, MP said they would fix it at no cost becasue the ECM is a non moving part and therefore should not break within 2 years. I worked at a marina and the one thing I hated the most was when customers came in and acted like they were the only customer we had and did not want to wait in line like everyone else to get their stuff fixed

              You mean we're not?

BTW, while I agree with your statement that they can't just send out new engines willy nilly, I fail to understand that if it's just a rebuild, why can't the dealer just do that and MP pick up the tab for that. Cheaper than a new engine and it fixes the problem. If the block needs replacing, then they should just step up and make it right.

BTW, Tige is going away from MP for warranty reasons...wonder if it's related?

well...there are a few customers that get to cut in line

of course they tend to the the wealthier ones that buy a new boat or two every other year

                  Shake,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I hope it can be expedited quickly. Nothing worse than being boatless at the height of the season.

                  Jeff T,

I understand Shake wanting things expedited, but your suggestion is just plain ludicrous.

Some companies are just like that i guess. I have a VW Jetta and going through warranty with them is like pulling teeth...for the dealer..not the customer. For the customer they have amazing service. A syncro in my trans broke onetime and they gave me a new jetta off the lot to drive while mine was being fixed. I agree with the dealer giving him a new tige while it is being worked on

Yeah I am asking that they do something they are capable of doing. So am I out of line in wanting my boat sooner rather than later. I shouldnt have to miss out on half the summer of boating because they gave me a bad engine. I understand that if I had bought a used boat that is the risk you take. I have had this boat in the shop about a half dozen times trying to get the computer fixed. I had the problem last summer with the boat using oil and the fix to the problem was the wrong length on the dipstick. We hoped that would fix the problem but it continued to use oil. The dealer has tried a number of different things with the computer to fix the problems there and he thinks that he has got it fixed now. I understand that these things happen that there is the potential for problems with any new boat. It is a five hour round trip everytime I have to take the boat to the shop and Deisel at $4.75 a gallon it gets old. I am very happy with my dealer and his efforts to fix the boat. He has brought the boat to me once and has picked it up once. He has given me stuff to help with the costs of fuel. He is doing his part. I am just ready to have it work like it should. I dont know that there is anyone one this site that would be very happy to give up their boat for a month this time of year. And now I am going to be stuck trying to entertain my mother-in-law this weekend!!

The boat does have about 125 hours on it now.

In the car business, loaners are common and handled like a rental vehicle. If the dealer loans him a boat and something goes wrong......wreck/sunk, somebody gets injures, etc, the liability/loss is on the dealer.
