    Prop Parts

I need to swap props next weekend and I was hoping someone could tell me where I can a new nut, key and cotter pin? The cotter pin is easy, I just want to make sure I have the rest of the stuff.

You should be able to reuse your old key and nut. I've had the same one for years and I've swapped my prop out many times.

If you need a new nut and key let me know I am sure they can not be that expensive. I have used the same one for swaping my prop six times now.

Fair enough, I'll just reuse them.

IMO, I wouldn't use the same cotter pin. Too much bending with metal causes it to break easier and you need it to keep that bolt attached.

No argument there. You can get them at Home Depot.

I won't be reusing the cotter pin, I can pick that up at HD. I was more concerned with the nut and key.

Just making sure. You were probably going to use a new one but just wanted to make sure. Better to be sure than make a mistake and lose your prop in the middle of Lake Mead.

Remember to get a stainless cotter pin. I got one I thought was nice and shiny, and it turned to being rusty within a few weeks. They have them at HD in the special nuts and screws aisle.

Make sure you have a decent prop puller.

I forgot to buy stainless when I changed prop on my previous boat and after being in the water for 2 weeks the darn cotter pin broke. We were at the dock at the time and I was fiddling with it by hand when it broke.

                            Lesson learned. Always use stainless
