That doesn't look very good. I have some rust on my trailer fenders, but it's from damage caused by high-speed blow-outs. It looks like they didn't prime it right.

I just got my 98' trailer (not dorsey) back from the welder because of rust. He pretty much redid the whole trailer and the bill was $230. So not that expensive of a fix.

I am not worried about the structural rigidity, i know that has not been comprimised, i care about the horrible look of the rust, i have had two heritage trailers and they never even thought about rusting.

Just to add gasoline to the fire:

Every Dorsey trailer I have seen in the past 3 months has had very very bad rust, not just surface rust, in those same areas. My old trailer was in really bad shape. I poked an ink pen through both frame rails with ease. It was also 10 years old, but to my knowledge had never been in salt water, so I didn't think anything of it. I bought aluminum.

I looked at several boats in the past 3 to 4 months. About half of them sat on Dorseys. In particular, all the Malibus that a saw. Even the Wakesetter that was 2 years old had a fender that was completely rusted through. All the bunk supports had lost all the paint to corrsion, and the fender boards were rusted out of the mounting tabs. ALL of the Dorsey trailers looked to be 4 times older than the Prestige trailers that was the other common brand. The real tell tale sign on the Dorsey trailers was the brake line holes. These were so rusted out on the trailers that the grommet had no more metal to bite onto. I don't know if it's the primer or the paint, but the Dorsey trailers seemed to have much much worse decay than the others.

Thats not really what i wanted to hear, i am the guy that waxes his trailer a couple times a year and take as much pride in it as i do the boat, that will suck if it gets really bad, i will just leave the boat on the lift all the time in order to not be embarrased to pull a piece of rust.

Studman you said that the dealer told you to take in to someone to get an estimate on the trailer, what ever happened after that?

Yah that never came about they looked at it while it was down for the gel coat work but were still waiting to here back though it will be awhile if ever that we get a reply. We'll just have chalk it up to experience and never buy a tube trailer again

Dealer called this am and said Tige would pay for gelcoat for the bubbles under the bunks but not labor so how much is gelcoat 300 the quote to fix the boat was either 2500 or 3500 (do not have paper it is at office) what a deal !!!!! later on in am I got a call from a tige guy in texas tried to call him back two times have not connected yet so the story is not over and my fingers are crossed. I own a window company here is FL and if construction was not in the shitty shape that it is. I am sorry to say I would be saying see ya TIGE and looking for another mgf ( Dealer has been ok, sales man great)but i still have a rusty trailer and bubbles in gelcoat I have not talked to a boat owner that had bubbles(only under bunks) on a two year old boat that never sits in water and still waiting to hear from them rather Dorsey is going to fix trailer. i am done bitching for the day just thought you guys deserve update

I've got a rusty Dorsey trailer, as well. I keep my boat and trailer in the garage...

What do bubbles in the gelcoat look like? Mine is starting to feel rough.
