Whent they went with a single piston, there was no longer a place for the middle bracket. Being the geniuses that they are, they just eliminated it, assuming that 2 was plenty. After a few breaks, they then made the remaining 2 brackets a little stronger. So the newer models around 03 and 04 have a slight tendency to break. I have not heard of any swim platform breaks lately. My 2002 was much like Dog's, the brackets were extremely stout, and there were 3 of them.
