TAPS Plate vs No TAPS Plate

of course it going to porpoise without a taps plate, the hull is designed to be used in conjunction with a plate to give variability in wake characteristics (as we all know).

the beauty of the hull is that is that it allows for large no weight wakes at lower speeds (with no porpoise), and when u want to go faster, u lift the arse out of the water using taps and sit flatter in the water.

its just a stupid comment to say that the taps plate is just a cover up of a bad hull design... the boat was designed like that and requires the plate for higher speed running. thesre is no doubt that tige could design a hull just like all the other brands out there which has one trim set and sits flat in the water, but thats just not their approach, that removes the ability to trim and change the wake...

ive ridden behind out boards, I/Os, waksetters, responses, various tiges and all will porposise given the wrong balance, especially the waksetter with wedge down.

you just have to drive a tige like it was designed to be driven and there isnt a problem... thats been my experience so far!!

With gas prices where they are, I rarely go above 30 mph... Seems like gph goes way up over 30 mph.

With gas prices at $4.32-$44.39 we also tended to cruise between 25mph and 30mph but every once in a while to have some fun because I like to have fun on the boat too.

Agreed. Love the ability to do what I want with the wake especially as ours is a family that enjoys our towboat for all of its purposes.

Should copy a few of these posts back to WW. Who really cares what an eventual response might be, but just one person might be interested n learning something they did not know before.

Was looking at other boats last night and found something interesting. It thought Tige patented TAPS so no other boats could use it. However, I think one of the patents has expired.

I dont think you cant stop a boat manufacturer from putting a ram powered plate(s) on the back of their boats, heck almost all center consoles and larger off-shore type boats have trim tabs, but Tige can patent/copyright the name and their explanation of it's function I guess.

My Z1 porpoises at 20.5 mph with TAPS above 3. Really starting to p me off. At 5.5 or 6, where I used to ride, now is incredibly bouncy. My dealer is going to take it out for a test on Wed. Hopefully he can figure out whats wrong. Incredible surf wake, though, at 10.6 mph and TAPS at 5-6. Anyone else have an issue with the Z1? I know that Tige rockered the hull more on this model but should still be able to get a good wake at 20-22mph. Sorry for rambling but very frustrated.
