Info on Walker Lake - Hawthorne, NV

I am looking for any input/feedback on Walker Lake near Hawthorne, NV. I flew up to Reno today for work and saw what looked to be a beutiful body of water on the way. There didn't appear to be anyone on it, although I realize it is the middle of the work week. Walker looks to be 5 hours from Henderson. So guys, like the title implies, I am interested if anyone has been there. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Yup, been there. Not in a boat however. It's pretty desolate in the region, right in the middle of an indian res if i remember right. Might want to bring a watchdog if you go, not only for the shady characters that abound but for the blasted envirementalists as well. Read on ... http://www.walkerlake.org/

Speaking of blasted, it is also adjacent to a Naval weapons “live fire” test facility…I never boated there either, but always wondered what might be in the lake…?
