    Going to shasta

Hey west coasters. My family and two friends families are going to Shasta soon. I was wondering If anyoune had some boating advice while we are there...I haven't been there for about 4 years.. It looks like several ramps will be closing so we may have to use Packers Bay. Are there areas that are better for watersports???? My friend has a X7 MC and I have some worries about the rough water I have seen there in past years. It has a pretty low freeboard..

    Thanks in advance

NOTHING was lower in freeboard than my '95 tigé and i had no issues at all at Shasta two years in a row. We stay a week when there and never had rough water per se unless it was in high traffic areas. No worries.

We just got back from a week in Shasta. It was windy 4 out of 7 days but we were always able to find good water somewhere. We stayed at Tsasdi Resort located between Antlers and Sugerloaf on the Sac Arm. They closed the Antlers ramp the day before we got there. We used the ramp by Sugarloaf it cost 8 bucks and we had no problems using it although we only put in and out once, the boat stayed on the water for the week. I found the best price for gas was at Silverthorn Resort, it was $4.46 per gallon, Bridge Bay was $4.90 and Sugarloaf was $5.40. The water was a bit chilly but it was getting warmer each day. We went the same time last year and the lake was 40' below max and this year it was 70' down. We never experienced any issues nor did we see anyone have any troubles. Depending on where you are staying the Squaw Creek arm has good water most of the time. I have pics but need to resize them, once I do I will post some of them.

Cool, thanks for the tips. We are renting a place at Cascade cove. I think we are going to use the ramps daily. Hope the water warms up this week....

Did sugarloaf have docks by the ramps??? I was told they did not...I don't like swimming to (from) my boat to load.

I was on Lake Oroville yesterday, and water is MUCH like shasta. Big deep reservoir, only about 90 mins south. Last week the water was 70, this week it was 75 in spots. It is def going up, especially if you are in a cove and out of the river inlets.

Sugarloaf does have a single dock at the ramp. Water was 69 - 73 degrees while we were there. The cool nights didn't help the water temp during the day. The cold water only bothered us on the first run of the day, once you were in and boarding it was not a problem. We swam a lot as well. As Ragboy stated the temp should be up quite a bit by now.

Cool thanks for the info...I think 70 would be great.. I was in a local lake a week ago and it was 54 deg. I'm still trying to find the ole' nuggets.
