A little word of caution or encouragement on Powell trips with friends. We have a group that is now on our 14th year together. Great times every year. Pick the group carefully some times it turns into more than sharing a vacation, we have had 1 pair of kids get married and it all started with meeting at Powell when they were 14 now 26, then we also have one family that won't speak to anyone in the group because of issues and they are no longer invited, their loss. I'm just saying maybe you should think about who your inlaws could be. I think any of the kids in our group that remains would be ok with me. They would have to get over that their daddy has an inferior Malibu or Mastercraft, jk they are all nice boats. It makes for a great week of comparisons. I think my kids are best, you thought I was talking boats, huh?

Funny that you say that. When I got the share, I immediately wondered who I would want to spend my precious vacation time with. My wife suggested we make it a family reunion of sorts for her family. I love her family, but they are not 'lake' people and none of them have boats or anything much to offer besides good company. We did that once a few years ago and after 1 week with my boat being the sole source of entertainment for 25+ family members, I was pretty tired. An inboard boat is something that you just don't hand over the keys to someone who has never done it. I would also feel uncomfortable demanding that they pay for jet skis or something, as that it can be pretty pricey and they generally might not be able or willing to do so.

So I chose my friends over inlaws on this particular trip. We did get 2 of my wife's sisters to come, and they went so far above the call of duty in bringing my 2 kids later in the week and in helping with gas and cleaning that they were worth their weight in gold to have. I wish that we could have done more for them. I would be happy as a clam if one of my kids ended up marrying into either of the families that came with us.

I have to agree with you KONA. It is very hard. And I agree with TALL. You can't just hand over the keys to anyone. Now with my boat set up the way it is one real good water over the nose event and it can get expensive. And we all know all you need to do is not know how to turn around one time and back into your own wake and it is all over for that.

X2. I'm not handing the keys over to anyone I don't implicitly trust. They have to have prior experience driving an inboard, either trained by me or they own one themselves.

DITO that even when they own one them selves I need to know their driving habits. I know one guy that own a 24ve that he just bought last year and all he does is powerturn the boat every chance he gets. I don't care for my boat to do that.

I agree, there is only three people I will let drive my boat. My wife, which by the way she does a great job, my brother-n-law and my self. If they aren't with me I only drive.
