I heard that the carps are one of the biggest reason for its color. It eats all the vegetation and all that is left is mud on the bottom.

They are starting a program to net all the carps out of the lake and re-plating the original native (June Sucker - http://www.junesuckerrecovery.org/utah-nati.html) fish from the lake. That will help on the color of the lake, but it will take years.

As long as it keeps its' bad reputation. Otherwise more people will be on the lake. But that lake is so huge that crowds on the water aren't such a problem as parking spaces in the marinas. Since I moved to St. George, one of the things that I miss the most about up north are those days when the wind is blowing out of the south about 40 mph and the swells just outside the AF harbor were so much fun to jump and surf on our Sea Doo's. On those types of days we were the only people out there, but I figured that since we were just outside of the AF harbor that if we broke down, the wind and swells would blow us right back to that point. Fun times. Thanks for allowing me to Reminisce

That is one of the reason I love the lake too, even on the busiest days you can always find a spot on the west side where you can be by yourself.

Man, that is one muddy lake. Utah Lake is more towards a greenish/brown.

Here is a picture on a calm day, when the wind picks up, the color change to a mix of brown on it.

Makes one want to grab a cup, scoop up some "milk" and take a big swallow.

reminds me of that commercial when I was a kid:

Chocolate cow on a chocolate farm near a chocolate stream...
