New Tige Promotion "Tige, You Buy the Boat We'll Buy the Gas"

How about this new Tige promotion. Good for hot prospects buying off the lot and picking Tige boats up before end of June.

    The promotion:
"Take delivery of a new Tigé from May 27, 2008 through June 30, 2008 and we’ll give you a $500 debit card you can use for gas, watersports equipment or whatever you want. Sign up now and we’ll email you a special coupon to present to your local Tigé dealer." Great for new buyers for a month Maybe less if gas goes to $5 like the experts are predicting.

But this new Tige Promotion for 2008 buyers is only good for about a 1 month window of new boat acceptance. Sure Doesn't help the ones who closed deals in late 2007 or early 2008 and took delivery in 2008 but before May 28,2002. Bummer.

With 3 week order turn arounds I would wonder about May/June production quality.

And my dealer said business is good. The sold my trade for what they allowed on my purchase. Cash must be tight for the small dealers. They are selling some Tiges but not the high ticket ones. 20V's, and Z1's are what my dealer is moving. They are saying when we finally get summer here they will sell more boats. I hope for my sake they do. I don't want to travel 3-5 hours for warranty and 20 hour maintenance.

My dealer's offering up to $5000 in gas for the summer. Maybe I should get a new boat...last summer we used close to $4000 in gas

Too bad Texas is so friggin far from here. I would take the $5k as additional discount off the best price I could get on an another 08 20V and sell my 2007 20V for what I paid for it. It had real hefty discount last winter. It is still new. Only hours where the Marine Power Sea worthy test since weather keeps backfiring and it has not been out yet. Today we have nothin but warm ( very good) and T-Storms for the whole day( lots of )for someone who trails to the lake s each weekend. Kind of fugly.

Only downsides I would spend 1/5 of the money going to purchase the boat and getting it home and I might land up like da.bell with two boats

On second thought I would be better off to count whatever blessings I have from last winters discounts and do a lot of floating with cold beer at the local sandbar/swimming hole.

Come on.....$500 won't pay for more than one or two trip's worth of gas at best. Actually, at $5 a gallon it won't even pay for a week long trip. For the forseeable future, "you got to pay to play".

My guess is a used boat would prove to be a much better value than a new $60,000 toy with a gas card.

        Just my

$500 is not much towards gas but if in dogberts area they have a $5k gas incentive that could be motivation of sorts

With the current Tiges you burn around 6 gph so say you run the boat for 6 hours a day 36 gals x $5 would be about $180 a day so the Tige promo will get you a wopping 2 3/4 days or a long weekend if lucky .

When you get down to it take a set of Pro-60's or something else. I just got rid of my 14 year old used boat and with it burning over 12gph and with it gettiing old and the transom falling out my new 20V was worth the money to me since I'll keep it for a lot of years like my last boat

You can get a heck of a nice Tige for significantly less than $54K for 22'-24' inboards that burn 6gph or less. Might be a new 2007 model with lowly kickers but I could deal with that. I went a lot cheaper and am happy with the 20V which is a good size for my wife and I as empty nesters

I doubt though that I will put on 6 hours a day

Sadly, I'd burn through $5K in gas in one season.

So, we b!tch about the cost of a new boat, so Tige offers a $500 gas card, paid for by the dealer, and we b!tch about it not going far

Just a few months ago, Tige laid off part of their staff because demand is down for new boats, and this is to help spur some new sales.

Doesn't anyone here work in a sales related field and use promotions for customers, hoping to do the same thing.........get new customers and increase sales????

You have no idea. I volunteer my time on the HOA board of directors. Everyone is real generous with my time, but no one wants to help out. How did we turn into a nation of whiners?

                  j/k

I thought Tige was picking up the $500 promo. My bad.

Twasn't bitchin just pointing out unfortunately $500 in gas won't go far.

But since you can put it towards other items I would put it toward something that will last more than 2 3/4 days

I give Tige credit......They are trying to drum up interest.

Looks correct to me. But I am loaded on Fenanyl, Morphine cymbalta and ambien so my mind is a bit numb and aggravated.

You know that if you observe the obvious on the site and comment on it you will be branded as a whiner and get accused of bitchin and whining.

I think it is great that Tige is trying to promote their boats by doing the $500 but it is not well thought out in my technical opinion. It is not enough incentive to get me excited to buy a new boat. In the boating world that is consumable cash and it is available for a 30 day window.

Some real incentive like a tower of power, heater, motor upgrade would get people thinking as the weather warms all of our bitchin and moaning cold blood complaining away. By profession I am technical product development and design. When our sales and marketing come up with an ill thought out promo or gives away $50,000 in custom work without making money on that nut and the rest of the products I will call them boneheads also. The game is to entice people to spend money and make them feel really great about it.
IMO Tige missed that boat. Let them spend the money in the front end, bank it and give them a generous rebate. It sure speeds up selling cycles.

On the gas guzzling Tahoe that I bought it had an MSRP of $49.8k, a Dealer list of $44k before hold backs and a selling price of $40,500 before Uncle SAM their was some incentive at least to look at a pretty loaded LT. But then there was another $2K incentive for me being awake and yet another $2K for being a loyal GM customer even though I had not owned one since 84 they got down to real incentives and I had 0 complaints when I am given over $12k off window price for an actual 2008. Amazing what real incentives do as well as decent option packages to go with the whole picture.

Tiges $500 incentive is an effort but you have to think what their margins will give when a hoaky list price on a loaded 20V w/o trailer is run up to $57K and then they want you to trust them and feel good when you push hard for a fair number in todays market and they come down to $45 w/o trailer it definitely caused some interesting discussions if they wanted to see the boat sold to me

We should also have fair incentives in todays market. Last years
$68K boats selling for less than $54K in 2008 IMO is the a market adjustment over time to excessive pricing, building too much inventory,( driven by Marketing and Sales inputs), and now Tige is feeling it. 21% is a not a healthy change but what type of numbers growth preceded the down turned economy and high fuel prices

I thoroughly understand you can't give away the whole store to incentify sales but IMO $500 is an insult after thinking about it and getting past joking. Dodge's latest incentive will give you $300 a month towards gas for a year. That will take some sting out of peoples pockets. It is only $3600 or less than typical discounting but a lot of people will be induced by it because it sounds good at a Dodge sales price point similar to Tige boats.
and is enough to help for a while.

I probably got my self in hot water again but I think it is OK to voice my opinion if I am not taking shots at people personally. My bottom line is I think the $500 incentive is too little to move a $54,000 boat. Less than 1% in economic motivation. Guys that isn't "Whining, it's the truth and fact. I would ask a different question than what was posed earlier.Doesn't anyone in Tige marketing use exciting promotions for customers, hoping to do the same thing.........get new customers and increase sales???? 1% or less is like 3% cost of living raises to many people. You sure don't feel good about it. Time to close shop before I go vulgar. Good morning and have a nice day.
I am very sorry about the long post. I got wordy again in my old age.

I was already going to purchase the RZ2. The day before I went in, Tige' started the gas promotion. It was a nice bonus for something I was already going to get. I know it is not much but every little bit helps.
If its not fun, Why do it?

                              imaginary scenario

A guy (or gal) is interested in buying a boat. So they stay up one night and surf the web. They look at all sorts of brands and just know that inboards are the way to go. They have heard of some of them, and not so much others. Several boat brands come up on search engines, including tige, so they click to see what they are all about. So, not quite sure what they are shopping for, this person sees that for 15 seconds of their time filling out a quick couple of lines the they automatically have $500 in a gas card. That is $33 a second. They might use it they might not, but now, based on their submission, their local dealer is aware that they are interested in a Tige, and can contact them to answer any questions or set up a demo. Thus, a relationship is formed. It is just a thought, but I thought I would share.
