    gas cap

Anyone know of a place where you could get a locking gas cap for a boat? My friends had some gas stolen from their boat, and I'm thinking with these gas prices, that could become more common.

    Try Overtons or Westmarine.

Not for the boat, but a friend had his tow vehicle drained while parked at the ramp during an afternoon of boating. I've now got a locking cap on my truck, though it'd serve some lowlife right to put a bunch of diesel into his car, or better yet, his boat.

I never bothered to get a locking cap during the past gas price events going back to the mid-70's. Now seems different, somehow.

How sad and pathetic do you have to be to steal gas from any vehicle? Crazy. I hope they get poisoning from sucking it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Bringing this back up, got 20+ gallons stolen out of my boat two weeks ago. I was thinking of putting a check valve in the filler as well so the thieves can not get the hose to the tank of syphen the gas up. Has anyone done anything like this? So far we guess they have gotten over 150 gallons from our community alone in the past two weeks. I am sure now that we know it they have moved on but with my boat on a mooring all week and fairly out of sight I want to try and stop them some how.

I"m not sure if a check valve will work, it might block the tank from venting.

I don't see why a check valve wouldn't work. It might slow down your filling though...

It will work for what he needs it to do, but doesn't the tank need to vent through the fill hose? if it does the check valve won't allow that

You want messed up? Three times in the past year our office has been hit by jerks jumping the fence in the middle of the night, drilling holes in 1-3 gas tanks to drain out the gas. All that risk, damaging our vehicles, and they do it all to drain out half-full Ford Ranger tanks? Drives us crazy!

Nope...our company is basically self-insured with outside coverage for the really large liability concerns...so this crap comes out of our pockets

You might be better off with an in line screen or something--I would be hesitant to stick a check valve on a fuel line that was not intended to have one.

Had to be at least $300 worth of fuel. This is why I camp w/ my dogs!
