Ok, I am convinced. I will cut a hole near "A" for the speakers. Instead of a Jig saw, I was going to use a hole saw. Is there a reason not to?

I have a hole saw kit, and it actually has a 5" saw in it. The kit was sold as a wood/metal kit, but looking at the teeth, I am pretty sure they are wood teeth. (this was also partially discussed in a different thread). What happens if I use a wood teeth saw to cut into the fiberglass? I was going to buy a bi-metal one, but am now wondering if this one will work.

IMO, that wood saw will work ok. Just make sure you reverse the drill to drill backwards and sandpaper the edges after you cut. jleger98 did bring up a good point that there could be a hole already cut so you could use that one vice cutting a new hole.

But if the hole is already cut, it's behind a seat back. I would then have to worry about cutting the seat back, and matching it up. It seems like a safer route would be to cut a new hole.

Ops, I thought that A was part of the seat cushion until I looked at the picture better. My bad...

Personally, I would be very leery about putting a hole in my vinyl and covering the edges with a speaker. If it were me, I would bring it to an upholstry shop and have them make some sort of proper cutout in the vinyl with edge piping so I knew it was done correctly and will look good for a long time to come. Mounting the speakers is really easy, but messing up that vinyl is just as easy and will look like garbage if you don't know what you're doing.

            just my
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

So, is that vinyl where you had the box labeled A or is it fiberglass?

                "A" is fiberglass.

I think I'm going to cut a new hole there, I don't want to mess with the vinyl

Option "A" is where my speakers are in my 20V.

                      I vote "A"!

zad - looks like a decent solution, I am going to look in my boat this weekend and see if it's doable in my boat

I think zad's too young to vote and, in the words of Jack Nicholson (in the Bucket List), "nobody cares what you think."

On my 2007 20V the stock Kicker speaker and tweeter is closer to the bow where their is no vinyl just one of the three candy corn colored gelcoat areas.

Location "A" will not be that hard to fish speaker wire to. I use a small electrician's Fish Tape.
