Try starting out at 9.3 or 9.5 mph.

For us, we ride @ 11mph, TAPS at 4.5, and the wake is great with our 700# sac in the locker and peeps in the boat, no weight up front. If we are low on peeps, we fill another 400# sac on the seat or in the floor on the surf side.

10.5 with all the weight in the back is a great place to start for newbies.

You will need to slow down with the Landlock. I'd say start at 9 or 9.5. The wake will be washed, but will have lots of energy. Then gradually work your way up to a higher speed.

It depends on the weight. When I surf my younger ones, I normally drop to like 9.6-9.8, but when a lot of weight in the boat, you need to go at least 10.5 for wake to form.

Keep in mind that his boat is shorter. It doesn't take as much speed on a 22' boat.

I'll try that, going slower. I was so worried about having a clean wake that I was afraid to go slower.

Thanks for all the help guys, that's cool.

Don't worry so much about having it too clean. It's going to wash a bit because you're going slower, however it will have a lot of energy for beginners. It also causes you to ride closer to the boat, which takes some getting used to, but it will be easier to find the pocket. Once they get the hang of it, increase your speed in .25 or .5 MPH increments. I wouldn't go much about 10.5 with the Landlock.

I actually put the nose of the board on the swim platform and stepped off and picked it up. A bit scarey but kind of cool.

I gotta tell you, I probably wouldn't do this again, not feeling the love on this one. Have no idea where it is, and where are the pictures and posts? This thread should be filled with new people learning to surf.

RB-It is enroute to Ritchie, Weil Thing, and is scheduled for drop off at his house tomorrow.

We truly appreciate you letting all of us do this. I am that much closer to getting a system because of the wife seeing the potential of the wake with ballast. Thanks again and please don't feel put off.

Weil thing, post some pics here, to keep this thread as a log of how this went.

                          The next in line is.

CAN'T WAIT!!! I'm really looking forward to trying it. I told the guys about the board coming and they are stoked also. I'm a bit nervous about my "wave" on the 20v with no ballast. I may need to buy some fat sacks beforehand--thye seem to sell like hotcakes on WW, so if I don't like it I should not lose too much. My wife actually said she almost bought me a board @ Pacsun but wasn't sure if Liquid Force was nice or not. Tease.

                            HURRY UP FELLAS!!!!!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Jason B, you will have to let me know how the wave is on your 20v with no ballast. That is what I have. I think we are running out of time this summer for learning, but I want to learn to surf next year!
