    Booms: Tower or Pylon Mount

Its raining for a couple of days in the Midwest, so no boating. Let's spend my money!

I could not find any good threads talking about booms. I've got some newbies coming aboard my 2003 22V this summer and I would like to get them up quickly.

What are the +'s and -'s of these two? (Tower vs Pylon Mounted) Both Overton's / Barefoot International.

The tower mounted boom looks like it will get the skier further toward the bow and out of the boat spray. Also, it is on the drivers side, so dragging, I mean, driving will give me a better view. But it is more $$. $700 vs $480 for the pylon type.

How about putting up and down in the middle of the lake?

    Storage?

    Other brands / models?

    What's your experience?

Personally I would not buy the tower boom because, my tower sucks, and I dont think it could take the strain. But luckily I have a DD and I can just use the standard style boom.

From my experience putting the boom on while on the water, I have found it easiest to attatch the main body to the pylon then clip the rope onto something stable in the boat so as I lean out over the main body to insert the extension it doesnt sink to the bottom. Lean out over the side, and hold the extension in a vertical position, stick the end into the main body and slowly lower the extension, once its down it should fall into place and then lock it in and attatch the ropes to the bow eye.

Storage sucks for any boom. On a V drive It might be worse because you dont have the full length of the boat in the storage compartments.

Barefoot International is a high grade boom and the most common.

      Thanks.

You're right about the tower. I had my brackets rewelded already. I'll talk to Joel. He'll help.

i have a tower boom on a 2001 21v. works great! easy to put up & take down. 90% of the stress is on the cable that hooks to the bow eye.
