I recently bought a 05 24v and it has a Phat Buddie tower with 2 cans welded on. Well I want to upgrade tower speakers, so I can either cut the cans off (messy) or upgrade the speakers in the cans. I tried to pry the can open to see inside cans but it is just bending the grills and the out ring. Anyone ever see these towers before with cans welded on? ANy ideas?

Those cans were specifically made for MB Quartz speakers which are an odd sized outer ring.
The best thing to do would be to cut the cans off and start over.
If you need any help let me know. We used to do those set ups alot and have upgraded many boats to the new stuff that sounds better.

I would cut the can first, then grind the weld, if you just cut through the weld with a cut-off wheel i think you will have a really good chance you will cut into the tower its self in a few spots, i have absolutely no experience with those cans and what will fit in them but i really like the looks of them and it is going to cost you a lot of coin by the time you cut the cans off, then paint the tower to make it look good again, and then get all new speakers in enclosures, just my opinion

I wonder if it would be better to just disconnect the speaker wire to those cans and add a pair of Pro 80's and Pro 60's. It would look like a lot of speakers, but beats the heck out of the task at hand.
95% of people would not find it funny looking to see a couple of different styles of speakers up there.
MyBe excellent to one another.

I may just upgrade the speakers in the cans and go with them until I get a new boat.
