Puzzled........ my 1st bent prop?

@ Canuck - We were at Aulolette it was a great day until the hit, 45 minute wait to get in and out of the water as you can imagine with the weather we had. We went to Cultus on Friday and it was pretty quiet. It is a beautiful lake with deep water

@SPBFAN- If it the prop I will send this one to you to be fixed. Can you also PM we with a price on a new 537 ( not the weekend kit, just the prop)

I still don't think it was a log, I wish I had gone back to look... the hit was so small I did not feel it at all on the hull, just when the prop hit it. I wonder if what happened was what Tige blue had.

I am going to try to make it out to a lake today to do some testing, I will try the spare 1st and then the damaged one to see if that was it.

For short term testing, is it okay to not use the cotter pin and just the lock nut? that way I can change them in the parking lot.

Also any idea about the two different size locking pieces in my photo?

I would say it is okay to run it without the pin for a little while. Just make sure that bolt is good and tight.

I think the pin was 1/8 inched thick by 3 inches long. Had to cut the ends to shorten it after I got it onto the prop shaft.

Maybe you hit a big a$$ pike? I've been fishing up there and some of those things are kinda like logs at 50+" and weighing upwards of 25 lbs.

You really only need a 1.5-2" pin, but it needs to be stainless. You can get that at Home Depot.

True, but for some reason I got the 3" pin in the prop kit.

I don't think it matters, I needed a pin and Home Depot was open. All they had was the 1.5" in that size, so I went with it. Turns out it does just fine. You really don't need a big pin to prevent the lock nut from falling off should it be loose.

I now have an extra in case I need it (it came in a 2-pack).

A happy ending

Well today was a test day with the spare prop on. The lake was awesome, nice and smooth, should have brought the gear and a crew..

1st up was my spare prop....... I was so happy when I punched the throttle and had nothing but smooth take off and no vibration... wow what a relief.

No one was around, So we pulled the boat up the launch a bit and decided to change back to the stock prop just because we were curious.

I am getting very good at changing the prop now by the way

after about 5 minutes, back in the water and guess what! no vibration, smooth low and full speed... I was amazed...

Long story short, I think I must have gotten something wrapped around the prop and that was the cause of my whole problem..

Thanks to everyone that gave input it was all the advise you guys gave that really solved this problem
