    Pictures from this weekend

Here are a few pictures I thought I would share. I wasn't able to take pictures of everyone since I was either driving or my battery died but I think I was still able to capture a few. You can view the rest here, http://www.78republic.com/riding/2008/

Dude, I would NEVER get my wife in the water with snakes in there. I would probably have to give my kids a $20 to get in each time.

Do they every bite anyone? Those are water mocassins, aren't they?

Hahaha...reminds me of the first time we went their years ago. It was my wife and I and she saw a huge water moccasin when she was pulling me. She vowed never to get in that water. Looks like she got over that fear.

I couldn't tell what kind of snake the first one was it was about 75 yards away from the kids swimming on the beach. Luckily the boat next to us let us know since we had three small ones in the water. The picture above, not sure what kind that is, its not a water moccasin though. I have never heard of anyone getting bit by a snake there.

That's a water snake. Completely harmless.

So are catfish, but one time we were in a cove, and my wife was in the water. A large 30" or so catfish was swimming right on the surface and came close to her and she saw it. The kids were yelling from the boat, FISH, ITS A BIG ONE, over and over. I was trying to get them to shut up, but they were in a frenzy. Amy walked on water. Now if that was a snake.... I don't even want to imagine. Staying in California man. ;-)

But again we have sturgeon fish that will cut the crap out of you if they hit you.

True, but deep, and I have NEVER seen one in all the years I have been. And the man sized catfishes at mead and stuff, but never see em.

catfish can sting the crap out of you also.

Nice pictures Matt. Looks like there was a lot of fun going on and the water level was low. How close to the shore was that?

Thanks. The water level is usually really consistent, it was about average level. It can ran anywhere from 3 ft to about 20 ft depending on what part of the river you are on.

Did you mean the snake? If so it was in the middle of the river when we saw it. Probably crossing it.

No, you answered the question. The snake was probably swimming from one side of the river to the other. Probably wouldn't bite anyone unless you were in it's direct path.

We have deer crossing our water way, not snakes or gators. ;-)

I'd rather have snakes than gators any day. A buddy of mine moved to Lake Mary, FL and his family refused to get in the water. He hardly ever used his Tige. So, then he buys a beach house in Datona Beach and guess what, sharks. We went to visit and I noticed them out in the surf. The water was pretty well stirred up, so I told the kids they had to stop boogie boarding. They were bummed, but I didn't want to take the chance because a bull shark will make a mistake and bite your leg looking for other fish in the surf.

It's always something. Snakes are usually not that aggressive, but water moccasins are the most aggressive. We don't see them very often in our lakes.

                            BTW, great pics!

                              hehe, exactly.......

We do have Rattlesnakes in Eastern Oregon, but I understand that they cannot attack while swimming? I've been told this and would prefer if no one correct me if this is in fact an incorrect statement.

I would prefer if I never see another snake in my life. Seriously

Great Pics Matt! My 4yr old love to jump off the side of the boat. He has graduated from the platform, now he wants air
