Darn, they already closed today. I guess I'll have to do less work tomorrow and then call them.

Guys, don't do anything yet. I just talked to Ian over at onlyinboards. He might be able to knock $100 off each unit, if we buy 5-8 of them as a group purchase. He will know more on the pricing next week.

oops, I just ordered mine. oh well.

For the record, I did get the GPS Mechanical version, no paddlewheel required, for $1195 shipped direct from PP.

I just heard back from them. They will do the GPS version for $1145 shipped, 2nd day air, or if we have 5 or more, they will do it for $1125 shipped. I am personally thinking about waiting a while, and see what happens to the price of the wakeboard pro, the extra $20 isn't that large of an extra savings to convince me to buy one today. But if we have 5 or more people who want one now, everyone should order togeather and get the better price.

Good luck with the install, are you putting it in this week? Please take pictures along the way and estimate roughly how long it takes. Thanks.

There are pros and cons to GPS systems.

                With GPS:
                • The speed is absolute, so if you play on a river with an appreciable current, then your speed relative to the water will be wrong and you may want to adjust it for the current.
                • You won't have strange water flow events across the paddlewheel when turning for example so you should be able to maintain a more consistent speed.
                • You shouldn't have to calibrate the unit.
                • Paddlewheels won't wear out.
                • The speed should be inherently more accurate since water flow can vary at different speeds across the paddlewheel.

                With Paddlewheel:
                • You get water temperature that obviously can't be had without a sensor in the water.
                • Your speed is relative to the water you're in so river flows are handled automatically.
                • You get to join the manly club of those who've drilled two-inch holes in their hulls below the waterline.

That said, I've just gotten my paddlewheel-based Wakeboard Pro calibrated (using a GPS!), and I LOVE it. It shields me from my inherent and longstanding aversion to running a boat off-plane. I'll never get used to encouraging a boat to plow through the water and make the largest wake possible while consuming the most possible gallons of fuel per hour. BTW, the water was 64.5 degrees last time out. Some may want to know that data before jumping in, some may not...

I'd wait on the only inboards price if you can. Ian said he is working on a good price

So I'm confused now. I thought it was posted earlier that we still need a paddlewheel even w/ the GPS on the non-TBW engines!?

No paddlewheel needed is the FINAL answer?

ps. I have testicles that tell me whether the water is cold or not--no need for a temp gauge. Shrinkage or no shrinkage is accurate enough.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

If the weather cooperates, I hope to do it Saturday. I'll try to take some pics, and also provide times for install....both with and without beer

Yes, but do you have the testicle fortitude to drill holes in your boat, that's the real question.

The GPS units do not need a paddlewheel for speed, the five samples/second from the satellites give you your speed. If you do have a paddlewheel, say you upgraded from a paddlewheel version, the GPS based unit will use it to display the water temperature. You will have do your own temperature calibration against your "personal" temperature gauge, however.

So what do you tell your wife if she is up to ride first? CLEARLY she does not have the testicle test (at least I would hope not )....or do you just chuck her in the water and tell her to deal with it?

Yeah. No biggie. Gel coat is super easy to do. Won't phase me a bit.

I would never "chuck her in," doing that would relegate my anatomical measuring device to serving exactly NO other purpose...if ya catch my drift
