    Shasta or Trinity?

We want to rent a houseboat this summer in July. I've never been to Trinity and its been quite a while for Shasta. How about sharing a recommendation on the two lakes and houseboat rental companies and their boats? We'll be one or two families depending....

First, I love Forever Resorts houseboats, and I think they are only on Trinity.

I have been on both lakes, and love them both. But the last few times, we rented cabins, not houseboats. I have found I enjoy a cabin and a slip better than a houseboat.

I would say when I was a teenager or in my 20s, I probably liked Shasta better. More people, fun marinas and stuff.

But in my 30s I would say I would love Trinity. It is smaller, but more secluded and beautiful. There are a bunch of bald eagles on trinity also, and that was a treat.

I can vouch for Forever Resorts houseboats, we use them at Lake Powell and they are nice.

We did that with three other families at Powell a number of years ago when the kids were small. We got along well, fortunately. Can be a drag with too many high maintenance friends/family. You gotta make sure that everyone's expectations, roles, and contributions are aligned ahead of time.

We're now signed up for mid-July at Shasta. Just the immediate family and a couple of the kids' friends to keep them occupied -- Just perfect in my book. Also, we get back just in time for the NorCal reunion so it'll seem like one long vacation on the water.
