    yet another prop ?

Ok so looking to get the replacement prop on order.

Called Acme and they "think" I have the the Acme#537 prop on currently.
They are trying to talk me into an Acme#1631 for better hole shots but lose alittle top end.

So do you guys switch up or stick with the original?
I am leaning towards the original as it is a replacement prop not a new/changed prop.

Thanks again for info on this topic once again....

Also they are expensive, any other location to purchase?
I know of deltaprops.com but any others out there?

PM SPBFan, he can get one for cheap (or cheaper) for you.

As for the other issue that you have, it is totally up to you and if you are planning to add a ballast system. With additional weight, the pop will get you onto plan a lot faster also.

Ask Frank at WWS what he replaced mine with. It is a huge difference. It just pops out of the water with a ton of weight. I did lose a couple MPH off the top end but not a big deal for me. It seems like it's a bigger diameter than my stock prop. I think I paid around $400 but can't remember exact price.

$400 is a good ballpark price for a new ACME. As da.bell indicated PM SPBFan as he can get you a good price. I had him get my spare 537.

The Acme guys are terrific at figuring what prop is best for you based on elevation, engine, tranny and weight you carry. Those are factors you really have to consider. Also your usage pattern. I am not interested in driving 10 miles up the lake in my boat, so cruising is only occasionally important to me. I occasionall am on Mead and Powell, so I do want to cruise at 30 MPH comfortably with a big group of people on board, I like the 537, but again that fits my boat very well. When I put 2000 pounds in her the boat is a little slower to get to speed, but still good enough for me.

buffman-Back a few years ago Bill worked with me on the correct prop and he was more concerned about top end RPM not necessarily the speed. Check with the shop and get their guidance on this. Their suggestions worked out with and without weight.

Is there anywhere to get aluminium props? Some of the lakes I go to are super shallow and I'd rather not ruin a steel one and cause alignment issues.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

The props are made out of NIBRAL now. If you have a steel prop you need to get rid of it asap.

Why get rid of it? Does NIBRAL bend like alum. instead of causing driveline damage??

Correct. The Nibral bends fairly easily.

I had a stainless prop on my old boat and had what I thought would be a minor prop strike and it bent my strut and shaft both...but at least the prop was fine!!!

Jason does your prop look like it is brass? Sort of a gold color vs shiny steel!

No I can see my ugly mug staring back at myself in it. I think that means it's steel right? I can check it with a magnet I suppose, is NIBRAL magnetic like steel???

Isn't Nibral nickel and brass combined? I know it's 2 metals, can't remember which 2 though. So if either of those is magnetic...

If it's SS, pull it and use as a backup. I would rather replace/repair a "brass" prop, for the lack of a better word, instead of shear a shaft or something.
