    problem with 05 22v

I took a 22v out for the first time last week in Saint George, and it started fine, but the steering was really stiff, I had no problems with it last year at all. So after reading the threads about the steering cable replacement if figured that was the problem. So we took the boat out today and every time I turned the wheel with a lot of force my voltage dropped and killed the motor. I was under the impression that the steering is just actuated by the cable with no assistance from any other source, but with the voltage drop that seemed to be related to the steering am I wrong? When the boat quit, it would lose power i.e. my guages would quit and about 2 sec later the mortor stoped, so it is defenatly electrical. I checked all my battery cables to ensure they were tight, and double checked my batt. on/off swith to make sure it was not in a half on half off position.
Also I put the boat in neutral and let the motor run at about 2000 rpm for a few min to make sure the battery had plenty of juice, again, I had no problem starting the boat, it seemed to have plenty of juice (the battery is brand new).

    Any Ideas?

    1. no pwr steering all done by the Telflex cable to rudder.
    2. Sound more of a quincedence then anything else.
    3. I would put a volt meter to you battery and and you alternator to see what the voltage is.
    4. Would the engine only die at idle??

I wonder if one of the crimped on connectors at the battery is loose and when you are turning hard it shifts the battery just a little but makes the connection drop and causes something goofy that kills the voltage...just a thought. I had a loose crimp and it was interfering with my amps.

Say hello when you see me in a big red 24V!!!

As far as your problem, I agree with what has been said before. There is no electricity in the steering whatsoever...

The engine seemed to have trouble below 1000 rpms; the funny thing was it ran just fine in Saint George last week. It’s not like it’s a motor idle problem, because it would only quit after my gauges powered down. It was pretty windy so we just took off, and I did not get a chance to check for loose wires or the voltage, but I would guess that’s probably what’s causing it.

What would be the most provable location of a short or loose connection that would cause something like that?

If you haven't replaced your battery, it may be time. Sometimes batteries short out internally. It can kill your engine when that happens.

This one is kind of strange.

Do you have power steering? If so, slight chance you may be dealing with a loose belt. If the drive belt is loose it may slip or be ineffective once the p/s pump loads up during a turn, belt gets loose p/s pulley doesn't spin, alternator pulley may not spin causing suddend drop in voltage. Sounds like you have many other weird things going on that a belt or p/s would have no effect on. Maybe this helps.

              Good luck

I don't know of any Tige that came with power steering.
