boarding at dusk sounds better than dark i think it's a accident waiting to happen btw illegal here in cali you cant do more than 10 miles a hour after dark.

Theoretically speaking, if I were to participate in such activities I would make sure that I'm wearing bright colors. Also, I would make sure that the boat had a spotter with a high intensity spotlight, in addition to tower lights. I would also keep in mind that your depth perception is warped at night. So, you'll be thinking your going to land a W2W jump a couple of seconds before you actually hit the water. If you're a pilot, this is similar to "flaring" on a night landing. You have to get used to it... not that I've done such a thing.

What I can admit to is that when we night ride on the cable lake at
Texas Ski Ranch, we wear those glow in the dark necklaces. The place is also well-lit, so visibility isnt an issue.

My tower lights do not shine far enough. I have four, they do a good job lighting the interior and a little around the boat, but that is it. Yep, and it's illegal in Washington State too and it's pretty easy to hear and see a boat on the water at night.

Tower lights are not enough. You would def also have to have a big spotlight. Its not a good idea. Think of a bad scenario, boarder goes down hits head on board or debris like a log. You turn around and have a hard time seeing him.

We have boarded coming in, at dusk, but not night. The only night time boarding we have done is on a private lake during INT practice. The lake is not much bigger than a pond, and only one boat on the lake. Even then, the riders where glow sticks for safety.

Hmmmmmm, so you COULD surf all night if you wanted to?

I've seen glow in the dark wakeboard ropes as well, wouldn't hurt to throw that in your night package setup.

No, you can't. It's illegal in Texas also. Most states where it's banned specifically describes the activity behind the boat.

However, now that you mention it. If you don't have a rope, you might be able to challenge the ruling on a technicality because you're not towing them.

That's one scenario, but the one that's going to make it illegal everywhere is the one where there's another boat and your rider falls. Your rider has no lights and the other boat won't see them. The only thing a spotlight is going to do is wreck the night vision of any other boat traffic, further compounding the problem.

On a private lake, where you control what boats are out there, it's probably ok.

Illigal or not, some of the most fun I have ever had! Course glow sticks and spot lights involved, but absolutely a great time! Water is always amazing at night. Our tower lights light enough behind the boat to see the rider, but in front i have always relied on the moon light, or known the area pretty well. Typically we have only done this on pretty secluded lakes or private lakes and with a pretty full moon.

Fun to do but be careful and stay safe.
