That guy with the diesel X-Star is here in the St Petersburg, FL area. I have seen the boat wuite a few times and talked to him personally. It was an inline 6 cylinder Yanmar and was pretty impressive. The guy happens to be a Adib Mastry of Mastry Engine Center, the larget Yanmar dealer in the world so install/cost of diesel power plant was about the least of his worries. He has since sold that boat to someone else that I still see regularly out on the intracoastal. Mastry has put a diesel in a super air nautique also. I think the benefits of a diesel are great, but only if you have access to the off highway diesel offered at marinas that is not taxed as heavy and is not as stringently refined, it costs about the same as regular unleaded on land down here right now. To answer KKO's first question though...I would NOT pay $32k for a diesel.

Currently for some reason... the "untaxed" offroad diesel is only $0.20 less that regular diesel, which is still wayyyy more than unleaded. Explain that one to me. But yet, the gov. has $0.70 tax on every gallon. I just bought 500 gallons of the stuff... so I'm up to date on the pricing.Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

The 310hp diesel in the nautique only neted 8gph , with the 260hp it got 3.5gph, the mid range power exceded the pcm 6.0l I was there when they were testing different props to try and get the boat dialed in for tournament capability, very clean installation, I speculate cc will have the diesel option by 2009 model , also Mastercraft supposedly will be switching back to yanmar, from volkswagon since they have had issues with the vws. At this point those numbers dont justify a switch to diesel for a tige for our fuel effiecentcy is still better, however that being said I wonder what numbers a tige might pull with our better hull desigh.

Just been looking at the numbers here in New Zealand as I can get a supercharged marine diesel as a bolt in replacement for the chev SB for 30k. We buy Petrol for $1.89/ltr and Diesel for $1.46 so based on the 40% savings the 160hrs we have run the boat over this last season so far at an average consumption of 17ltrs/hour we would have saved $2,758.08 over the season.
