    Which lake is better??

We are talking about taking a long weekend this summer, and wondering which lake we should go to. Our choices are Glendo Resevoir (3.5 hrs away), Lake Mcconaughy (3 hrs away), or Pueblo Resevoir (1.5 hrs away). I know the beaches at Mcconaughy are nice, but also heard it gets really windy. Pueblo is smaller, but also has lots of coves for waterskiing. Has anyone been to Glendo? If so, what did you think? Any +'s or -'s anyone can think of, reguarding those three, or any other suggestions for someone who lives near Denver?

    thanks!

don't go to Pueblo, they have the zebra mussel infestation.

I've gone to McConaughay for years and love it, but am going to check out Glendo this summer. I hear the weather in Glendo is unpredictable as well.

I guess you are not close enough to Lake Powell?

'If you are an old man, go to Lake Powell. If you are a young man, do not go to Lake Powell, because everywhere else you go will not be as good.'

That was once said by a great philospher. (He actually said it about Alaska, be he never saw Lake Powell).

Lake Powell is by far the best lake i have been to. we are doing a big houseboat trip 8/13-8/17.

Glendo for Memorial day and Labor day weekends.

15+ years back I used to go to Powell with my family, we've thought about it now, but it's too far, and we already have a vacation planed this summer. Maybe next year.

When does the water warm up in Glendo?

I've been to all 3, personally I would go to Glendo. We have had some great fun at Glendo but also some bad times... It's a huge lake and can get very windy, very fast! There is a beautiful canyon that you can go in and we have always been able to find good water for wakeboarding. I'll see if I can find some pics to post in here for you.

              Which Lake?

Glendo would be my choice too. Guernsey is up there also. We did a long weekend and hit all those SE corner Wyoming lakes. We did put in at Seminoe but got blown out pretty quick-huge lake! I've also heard of a reservoir just across the border on the Kansas side that is about 3 hours??? Anyone know what this may be coming from the Denver area? A long weekend to Flaming Gorge would be worth it but I’d bet about the same distance as Powell and that’s where you’ll find us if you’re talking that kind of drive. One last thought for a 4 hour trip is Steamboat Lake. We go every year, rent a cabin and have a great time.

Glendo is the best of the 3 for sure we hit most every year....
No more Big Mac for us as I have a 5th wheel camper and I will not pull it down on the beach as the wind is crazy there and dont want sand in every area of the camper, they have camping spots up top but as low as Big Mac is it is quite a trek to the shoreline every time....

Glendo sounds like the one to hit. Are there any decent hotels near it? My wife isn't a camper.

Also, when is it the best time to go up there? June, July, Aug??

                        thanks

Oh, hotels.. I don't think there are many around there. We normally camp at Sandy Beach (45 minutes into the dang park). You might check for a rental house around there.

My vote is for Lake Powell first and Bear Lake second.

We always go to Glendo for Memorial day weekend. The weather is unpredictable, but usualy pretty nice. Sandy beach is fun, and the party beach, but LOTS of sand and wind; not to mention the attention from the Rangers.

With all the Tige owners in Colorado chiming in on this thread, we should all plan to go to Glendo for Memorial Day weekend, and meet up.
