He has a laptop on hand waiting for him as soon as the doc's give permission. He used his moms the other day to type with his good hand and it worked out OK. Obviously he is right handed so he is a little slow with out having both hands to type. I will be paying him a visit next week and will continue to update all of you as things develop.

6-2 Update from his work supervisor.



Monday Evening, June 2nd:

Talked with Seans Mom this evening following the 2000 hour visit. She had visited Sean 5 previous periods today. He has been very tired undergoing therapy on his left arm. After Seans Mom purchased some foam balls for him to squeeze, the nurses set up a series of rubber bands attached to his bed that he had to pull on (resistance therapy). He's been awake for 9 days and they already have him working out. I'm not sure I'd be able to handle the exercise regiment. He has been working his right arm as well (this is the arm that was broken).

Seans Mom was able to speak with Dr. Spain (chief physician) this morning.
He talked about Sean's protein level and how they needed it to improve before performing the closing surgery on his hip/pelvic area. They are planning on changing the position of his nutrition tube. Instead of moving it deeper into his stomach, they are going to pull the tube from his nose and move it to an entry point in his chest. They're hoping to bypass the area in his stomach where the bile build up is. The intent is to get the nutrition into his system so he can build up his protein level. At that point, they'll feel more confident about completing the suturing of his hip/pelvic area.

Seans Mom read another chapter of "Riding Rockets" to Sean this morning.
He watched some television. He slept quite a bit today.

There is a plan to begin changing his pain medication to a less addictive type which has been contributing to symptoms of "phantom pain". This may take some time to get the mix just right.

Carley arrived this afternoon and will be with Seans Mom through Wednesday evening. Both women were very upbeat (as usual) and kept talking to me in "hospital lingo". I had to remind them to switch to "dumby lingo"
so I could translate. They've been hanging with Doctors and Nurses too much.

I will be stopping by to see Sean on Thursday leaving Sacramento that morning. I understand that Thursday is "pet day" at the hospital.
Animals (I guess mostly dogs) are brought to patients rooms for some "pet therapy". In Sean's case, the dog will not be able to enter but can view Sean from the door way. My question to Seans Mom was "am I going to have to fight a dog to see Sean"? I haven't been able to see Sean since he was in KMC. In addition, I haven't been able to talk with him since the accident. I have talked with Sean but he wasn't awake and aware. I'm looking forward to visiting with him and first hand experience on how he's improving.

Another good day for him and his family. Prayers and thoughtful notes are making a world of difference. Thank you for this. Sean and his family do NOT feel alone and know that there is so much support behind them. If you have something you'd like to send to Sean, continue to use my office address at this time; however, I do not believe it will be too long before you can send directly to the hospital. I'll let you know when it is appropriate.
