I started out with a 94 yukon, thought it would be fine, not really. It did ok, underpowered, but the main problem is since it had such a short wheel base, the boat(03, 21ir) pulled me all over the road. I now have a 2000 powerstroke and will never go back. It weighs more then the boat and trailer, so it doesn't get bossed around, can pull the trailer in two wheel up any ramp I've hit so far. will do what ever speed you want up what ever hill you want, and still get at least 12 mpg. I'll never go back to gas, I know that.

But as far as your trucks, the biggest thing to consider is not the engine size, but also how big your truck is. If it has a longer wheel base it will pull it better. Also what are you gonna be using it for? I mean a the HO jeeps will pull a tige if you want to, just depends on how far.

I live in the Texas Hill Country. I had a Dakota 4WD w/ V8 and it was kinda marginal (it was rated to tow about the same as the 4-Runner). My boat is a '99 21V (boat and trailer combine for about 5200lbs). My '04 F-150 does a *LOT* better. My friend has same the same boat and he uses both his suburban and his F-150.

I'd take a full-sized truck/SUV over any of these imports.

pulled both my 22ir and my 24v (once) with the dodge durango (5.7) it did ok w/ the 22, wanted more power and only got 4MPG but it would tow uphill pretty weel if you left your foot on the floor. I pulled my 22 mainly with a chevy 3/4 with an 8.1 and it towed like there was nothing there, but the mileage was aroun 7MPG. so i got a duramax cc and put the chip in it and it tows the 24 with no problems. I also tow my 5th wheel and the 24 behind that and got a ticket 2 weeks ago for an high rate of speed. and the duramax gets 13 towing everything. I agree, bigger truck, bigger engine, and no more gas. but that's just for me and everyone likes different things and has different uses for their vehicles when not towing a boat.
