    GM Vortec Pull Hard

I have 2 trucks to pull. The 2002 Yukon XL 4x4 with 8.1L. This thing is a torque monster/tow beast. Will tow anything, doesn't even feel the Tige 24Ve much.

My other truck is a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5.3L Vortec. It doesn't tow the Tige very well. Really struggles on hills, and even slight inclines. But I much rather drive it, unless I am with my whole family. It has the killer stereo, ipod connection, its raised, all the good stuff. My wife doesn't want me to do that stuff to her truck, the yukon.

So I have being doing some research over the last couple of months and I found this article which is no longer available on the internet. The article was from ChevyPerformance magazine. They did a baseline dyno, and then added 3 parts from granatelli motorsports which they dub the "Granatelli Pull Hard Kit." The kit is comprised of new near coil spark plug wires that are special 0 ohm resistance, new cold air intake kit, and new MAS airflow sensor tuned for the new air intake kit. All three are smog legal in 50 states, and bolt on. My dad and I did it in a couple of hours. According to the dyno, this will give you a 55 HP boost to the rear wheels and 65ft lb torque boost.

On top of that, I got the Big G tuner from Granatelli to reprogram the computer for better towing performance, which is supposed to give you an additional 20-30HP increase.

Did all three at once and the difference is amazing. It doesn't tow as well as the 8.1 obviously, but its night and day. I went up the siskiyou grade in southern oregon, which is as long and steep as the grapevine. 60-65 almost the whole way. At the very top, it got extra steep and traffic, I dropped to about 55. I was passing people the whole way home. When I towed the tige before, people were always passing me.

Anyway, for all you guys out there with Vortecs, looking for a bolt on boost, check out granatelli.

Have u noticed any impact on the gas mileage? I have dual exhaust, the K&N and a Superchip and I am at 15mpg and it pulls good as long as I have it tow mode. It is a lot faster too. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Also, they need these for boats. Why they dont have them is kinda wierd given that the engines are the same w/ different clearamces.

          The wires were $160
          MAS Air Flow sensor $300
          Cold Air intake $240

Then the addition of the Big G Tuner was $299. Everything was pretty easy to install, and you can call granatelli for help.

I haven't noticed MPG change yet, seems about same. However, I am heavy footed, and all the extra power, I am like a kid doing wheelies on a new bike. Can't help it. I will test MPG after I put some more time on it. Its supposed to give you 2-3MPG extra. I was just looking for extra towing power, and I got it.

Also, the tuner allowed me to dial into the diameter of my bigger tires to calibrate my speedo. Its perfect now. Used my GPS to calibrate.

Oh, yeah. I did that first. It has a high flow system with 15" flowmaster on it. Its 2 into 1, because everything I have been told and read, has said that going to dual exhaust, while it looks good, degrades performance.

The new exhaust, made it sound great, but also adding the cool air kit, makes it sound even more throaty. Like an older custom small block with a big 4 barrel on it. You can hear it sucking in the air.

it always makes me laugh at everyone with 4x4's complaining about not having enough pulling power, we use a volvo V70R not the best at towing but it does the job, and we have to start from a standstill on steep hills. this volvo is like a tank haha

Yea I had a cold air intake on my last one and you cold hear the air sucking in and then the roar

Where did you hear dual exhaust degrades performance? I can understand if its the fake duals but true duals with a cross-over pipe should sound and work great
                    Everything happens for a reason

I am sure it pulls your 20i just fine, but my 24Ve is about 5000 lbs.

maybe with the crossover. But both of the muffler places I was looking at told me the same thing, and also read in several forums. Its the same with my motorcycle. 2 into 1 pipes will give you a performance boost, where 2 into 2 can degrade performance slightly. However, on my bike, I put the drag pipes, fuel controller, and big air kit, so all together its a boost.

Good point! My yukon xl 2500 has huge breaks and stops my 24Ve like nothing. The 1500 has to work a LOT harder.
